Well thought I'd post a couple of pics of my LEH elk hunt in 4-02. I had a cow/calf tag. Great trip got the elk the very first evening. Got a whitie 2 days later. Awesome country and met some good people (one group of hunters lent us their sawsall to 1/4 the elk).
Got the elk uphill at about 70yrds (30-06 180gr)through the throat . Flipped the elk on the spot and it never moved. When I walked up to it it had pretty much bled out but put one in the brain to make sure. Glad it was a small one because that was a lot of work getting it out of the woods in the dark (shot with about 1/2 hr legal light left).
Whitie was just off of the road about 4 pm. Shot was about 40yrs (.270 win 150gr) right in the bread basket. Ran about 20yrds and that was it.
In total after cutting about 200lbs of meat, freezer is full!!!!!
Never realized that Elk was sooooooo tasty!!!!!!!!
