I hunt with a 30-06 circa late 1950's (beauty but heavy). I am frequently back packing and would like to carry the gun across chest. I noticed Kifaru Universal Gun Bearer discussed here but could not find a source for them. Anyone using an across the chest sling and where to get ... thanks.

I use a safari sling can’t remember where I bought it. I really like it when still hunting timber sometimes when climbing hills it is a little awkward but not that bad. They are hard to find in stores it might be easier on line.

It is for sale at Kifaru. https://store.kifaru.net/gun-bearers-p30.aspx

I have the Gunbearer on my pack and like it but I find a heavy gun sort of loads that hip more than the other one and my hip gets sore.

If I'm going to wander without my pack I use the Safari Sling which is another good method for carrying a rifle across your chest.

Similar to Nam sling. Works great but it must be the true Safari sling.

I use a universal gun bearer. Bought direct from Kifaru. Buy the universal, not the standard though.

I got my Kifaru gun bearer through Omar at Precision Optics in Quesnel. Not sure if he’s still bringing them in. Might be worth a call.

The original Safari sling has always been my go to sling for conventional rifles as it is so versatile. Cabela Canada still shows a picture of one, but is no longer available through them. I have always purchased mine in the states so I am not sure of a Canadian supplier.

again, another easy diy, just add a webbing/cord loop in between the sling and the swivel, or run the small cord through the stud w/o the swivel.

Its not rocket surgery

made my own using the kifaru type design. Local hardware store usually has wide webbing and all buckles. Used dental floss for the thread, as it lasts way longer and is stronger. Bought one of those magnetic quick release buckles for the chest pc. Works great and is quiet to operate, and don't really need to watch the buckle close with the magnetic option. Goes in quick after use.

If you can find one the Safari Sling is a great way to pack a rifle across your chest.

Nice thing about the Safari sling is you can also sling your rifle low across your hip instead of high across your chest. My binos sometimes get in the way of carrying across my chest.

Magpul sling with side mount push in QD sling mounts. Probably no help to a guy with a 1950's wood stock though. :)

Damn! I bought a Safaris Sling this summer to give it a try and totally forgot about it. I’ll have to give it a try on the next trip.
