Only got two weeks to go until I'm up there, got an update from the cabin owner that we rented, the natives took a good bull yesterday across the bridge at 5.5km mark, was told it was a 7x9, and he's seen bigger than that live!! This should be good! Also heard they are screaming now too... damn wish I could hunt them now!

Time to go grab a real rain jacket, I know my sitka stuff is waterproof to a degree but not rain forest proof!

We just came back recently, it rained so hard basically the entire time, well in any case since one asks....
We arrived on the 9th, got settled in and went for an evening scout, the rains opened up and flooded part of the road by 14km mark, about a 200 yard stretch, luckily not deep enough to stop us to get to our grounds! We came to an area we seen in July that had great sign however when we got there, it wasn't all to used recently, so off to plot B... Got to plot B , seen fresher sign, crossing the roads and went up one of the major trails and found a few rubs, looks way more promising for the morning, so off to the cabin we go for food and whiskey!
So 5:30 am comes quick, some quick egg sandwiches and coffee then hit the road, the rain went all night, and by rain...cats and dogs but in any case we hit Plot B and hunker down in the dark, about 30 mins later we get shooting light and just glassed a mountainside, about an hour later we spot a lone bull elk walking down a old spur road, it's a young 5 x 5, funny enough about 150 yards further up the hill another bull, but much smaller.. a 3 x 2, so we are pretty excited however nothing else comes down the hill... From there it's probably 10am so we decide to check another spot, we hop in the truck and get a km down the road and there's another bull in the middle of the road! We are thinking this is nuts, there's so many here! We let him pass as well, and went to another area but there's someone in there so we decide to head to the hatchery and see if we can see any salmon in the blown up river system for shiets and giggles before going back for lunch! They have a little covered area there so we hop out, crack a beer and hear another vehicle coming in, it stops then two RCMP and two CO's hop out, the CO just asked for proof of licenses etc and was very pleasant and the RCMP had a quick question about how much beer have we consumed, all was in order so they wished us luck and went on their way! Over the next four days we got drenched pretty much everyday, we seen elk, from small herds to lone cows... it was very interesting as one time I was in a clearing when a cow elk walked into it, I had to freeze and just wait, it zig zagged all over, always looked at me but I was getting away with it, then she starting calling, and not loud, like quieter than a hoochie mama, I was just paying attention!! She eventually walked around me then caught my scent and left, was pretty cool experience! It was the second to last day, woke up to pouring rain, yes surprise...surprise... at this point we weren't too into getting soaked again! Time to get one and go get dry and have some whiskey! Well in any case we went to another area that was holding elk and found a smaller herd, there was a decent bull so we took it, it had long tines and a 5 x 6, actually a very nice rack... al though not what I was hoping for but good eating , impressive head gear and now we can process and get dry! By the time I left there was 4 bulls and two cows taken including ours. I would have posted pics but I can't figure it out as I've tried many times plus I would have to ask my partners.. Cool area, was a great experience and would love to go again... just going to get the draw again next year! Cheers

Awesome write up. Nice that you were able to see a decent amount of elk and still able to fill the freezer even on the last day. Tip of the Hat!

Firstly congrats.
As for pics, use imgur (pm me if you want help as to what to select once uploaded)

Question: did you barge a truck up there or did a local loan you one?

Also, did you hear if any large bulls were taken besides the FN one?

Dont worry about it not being the big one.
My buddy had a rough time finding them a couple years back after having tons of cam pics scouting.
They took the 2nd bull they saw, which they had on cam, but not their dream bull either.
But, the other group ended up with nothing, so you have to look at it that way.
And yes, getting soaked up there is an everyday event up there at this time of year.
Think my buddy said they didnt see sun all week, just rain.

Anyways, glad you had a good time with success.
Still crossing my fingers for that hunt!! one day.
