After 6 days without a look at a bull; on the 7th morning we found one but could not get any closer than 328 yards and it was getting late in the morning and heavy bush was close by...

One shot in the lungs and as it spread it's legs trying to stay standing one more shot just behind the ear. Only a bit of meat lost at the ribs, we cut away the bloodshot "jelly"...

We had enough rope to use the truck (a dot on the horizon) and pull it all the way uphill to the road.

3 happy hunters...

Nice bull and I hope you had mazola oil in that chainsaw!

I did... it is totally cleaned and prepped before the hunt ... we have found the chain saw to be the easiest, quickest and best method.

I put it all together...
A 700 long action with a Kwik-Klip conversion, Leupold 3.5 x 10 Boone & Crockett in dual dovetail mounts and a factory Remington stock, action glass bedded and a Gaillard barrel floated.

So I could use the Kwik-Klip conversion... it is only made for the long action.

Very nice! What bullet did you use, if you don't mind me asking?

Last year a 139 grain Hornady and it worked well, this year a 154 grain Hornady and it worked well. I have always liked Hornady bullets for game animals. Accurate and good performance.

Here is a picture of a 139 grain Hornady from a deer many years ago, it expanded to .60 caliber and retained 125 grains of weight after going through the chest at an angle and ending up against the far shoulder.

What muzzle velocity Dennis?

I think it is around 2700 f/s with the 154 grain... the 139 is closer to 2800.
