Where do you buy salt licks (for game cam setups) close in the Lower Mainland (Coquitlam)? I like the "Trophy Rock" but am open to suggeestions... I used to get them from Canadian Tire but they are out of stock and the only other place I find them is Bass Pro which charges an arm and a leg for shipping.

You put a salt lick in an area where you have seen lots of game animals and in as a remote area as you can find

Any Valley feed supply. Bigger blocks for less money. I find the trace mineral blocks work good to keep the bulls and bucks coming back as their antlers grow. Later in the winter I have pictures of moose digging down in deep snow to get at the blocks I've left out.

Otter co-op in aldergrove.
They sell the blue and brown licks as well as fine grain salt bags.

The blue is 99% salt (NaCl) and works wonders. The brown has more trace minerals in it.

If you're using it for mulies, you dont need much.
If you're using it for blacktails use as much as you can haul up. The damn wet climate just washes your salt lick away MUCH MUCH sooner.

Bass Pro. I know, I know; I would rather support a local shop too. But They sell cheap salt licks right near the trail cams. I have looked at lots of other shops and they are tough to find and expensive

Water softener salt is usually sodium chloride or on rare occasions potassium chloride which equates to table salt.

I heard that once or twice too. I have 4 years of mountain goats on cam on a water softener lick, same heard Of 20’ish animals, and their health and numbers are doing amazing (besides crap kicking each other fighting over salt) I’m all ears to any science behind the salt, but i haven't seen any personally.
