Yesterday afternoon, I bailed form work early, and on the way home decided to take a look at a cutblock. I turned off the highwway, drive 5 minutes, then disembarked. I was going to hike up and around the back of the cutblock to see if a deer would come out before dark.
As I had stayed in a hotel the night before (wedding) I didn't have much wiht me. I had my 375 Ruger Alaskan, 3 rounds of ammo, my binoculars and not much more.

I started trudging up the old road, and had gone about 15 minutes when I noticed a bear 100 yards away. And it was UPHILL from the road!!

A quick glance showed that it was decent, and had very nice fur. Proabbly taste good, too. So I started a sneak, keeping low and using the undulating road to get close. At 30 yards I was crawling up and gettign ready for a final assesment through the scope, wait for a good shot.
At that point he busted me, looked straight at me, while on all fours...It was now or never, so I shot him in the chest.
The 260gr Accubond hammered him hard, he went downin a twitching pile....

Didn't even have my camera wiht me, but he was in a good spot. I ran down, got my truck, backed up right under him, put it in 4x4 and scrunched the rear of the truck into the side of the hill...Mr Bear rolled right in Ha ha!!

Took him home, roplled him out snapped some pics and started skinning.

If you look on the rigth side, you will see where the bullet ended up- under the skin, after penetrating about 48" of bear..

Yeah, it was pretty nice...especially as I got blindsided ths fall with work...

I had a few plans this year that just got dropped...I usually plan for some fall vacation, but this year it seemed like the world exploded in my face...And all my Sept and/or Oct plans went down the drain...Usualy my work is good, but it's been trouble the last few weeks..Sucks to be the boss sometimes...AARGGHHH!!!

I should have a handle on things soon, and be able to take some time off in November, which isn't so bad. Might even get an opportunity to go to Clearwater and shoot a 150" deer.

He is a nice bear, I didnt' have time to take many good pics of him, since I wanted to skin him quick (It was a warm afternoon) but I taped him at 72" nose to tail. Good bear, not the biggest i have killed, but nice fur and good looking meat. I am happy, and happy that he went down with little fuss.
