This year we said screw the family-turkey thing and did what we wanted to do! We packed up and headed to the gang ranch country for a mulie hunt/ sheep scouting trip! Since we travel the river by boat, all of our hikes were straight up! The walkes back were much easier!

This is one of many drainages we hiked!

We saw less deer than usual and no monster bucks, only 1, 4 point and he was to far and to quick for Georgia to get a clean shot! We did see a bunch of little guys though, in this pic theres 2- 2 points, that would of rolled into the boat if we shot em!

You can definately wear out a pair of boots in that country :) River boating it would be a great way to hunt that country too. Did you see anything you'll be going back for?

We saw lots of sheep too, 28 in total. This pic was taken through the binos at 250 yards.
there was 8 rams all about 3/4 plus or minus a bit. one was 7/8 I figure, might buy a tag next year!

these pics dont do em any justice, but there were some pretty nice potential in here!

I thought all the sheep in there were dead. Funny how the rumormill is eh? Wonder what part of the Chilcotin that monster ram on the other thread was taken?
Nice pics Mark. I love hunting that country. I find it way less crowded in Oct. Nov can be a zoo.

Ya ive seen it a zoo before, we didnt see another hunter in 3 days. I was shocked! The junction herd took it the hardest, used to be tons of sheep there and now there scarce, I see sheep every year Ive ever been there. And im not really looking for em either. These rams were in a location with pretty limited access, all the sheep were really!

Nice pics, I'm real jealous that your gal goes hunting wiht you..Mine won't.

Did you use a jet boat or float in a raft?

Love that country, it's so beautiful, harsh, somber and wonderful at the same time.

Neither will mine.........makes it hard to plan a hunt. She doesnt understand - even after the freezer is filled.

Nice country...I was up there thanksgiving and managed to get my buddy (and coincidentally a former member of the sierra club) his first buck...a small 3 point. Had to pack the bugger quartered 8 kms back to camp. But the bucks were scarce, people are saying it is because of the extended GOS, but the CO we talked to said deer numbers are up as per the spring count, so it must have just been a late migration. Saw our fair share of sheep as well, might even have been the same herd you were looking at!

Nice photos Mark..lol those rams DO have bigger brothers not far from the ones in the photo...OOPS..

This year has been strange the bucks were everywhere opening weekend then pressure?? just went back into the pockets of trees in the STEEP stuff and only have been moving past dark...and the benches they bed on have steep rim rock or are beyond your vision maybe 3 or 4 benches up..jet boats DO get really popular in early and late season down there..

Thanks for the photos..see ya for TH next trip down
