Well, I'm off with two buds for 5-1 on Monday morning moosing and deering.

Talked my 65-year-old neighbour into getting his hunting licence again for the first time in 25 years and we're going with another retired hunting vet.

I'm the kid  at 54.

Anyway, how has 5-1 been looking the past few weeks? Lots of hunters, camps everywhere? Any game spotted? Shot?

We're staying at Sulphurous Lake, so we're thinking of the Horse, Deka, Drewry, Bowers Lake areas mostly so we don't have to go too far in the morning to get hunting. Don't want to spend all day in the truck.

What's the chicken hunting like, should I have the 410 behind the seat too?

I would count on it being pretty busy there. With the moose draws and the any buck hunters it can be hectic. There are some chickens but the ones I came across were pretty flighty.

I'd have to say this is 100% correct from what I saw up there a few days back;-)

Well, last weekend was a long weekend.

I'm hoping during the week will be a little quieter.

i was up during thanksgiving for the week. saw lots of chickens but like said before they flushed pretty quickly (the 12ga was my friend). got my buck, saw a cow, and only 3 does...but there were lots of fresh tracks so they are around. pack warm, snowed the first 2 mornings on us and day time highs were 5C. have fun, its a great time of year to be up there.

Long weekend or not the areas you mentioned have been busy. Be prepared to be at your spot early and also to see lots of guys. I was up the weekend prior to the long and it was packed.

Dont forget its the last weekend for one set of moose draws and the scouting weekend for another.

Not trying to discourage your trip but you might as well know what to expect.

Good luck
