So... since the Kung-flu / corona virus / whatever you wanna call it virus started from “bat meat”, do you think all meat / hunting for meat will be banned? I can see this from the anti groups.

Just finished some deep reading about the make-up and physical state of this "Bullet from Wuhan" (James Bond anyone?) we are all dealing with. One thought keeps re-occurring to me, it seems like all the characteristics and delivery methods of this microbiological assasin are designed to take out humans, like it was designed specifically for us? (other than mutating to airborne pathogen yikes) Anyone else doubting the Ace Ventura Bat meat bat shit story?
Ace?

Apparently, hunting and fishing supplies are considered essential and they are a means for people to secure food!

I went to outdoor essentials in smithers today, pre-ordered items on phone. I knocked on the locked door (one customer at a time only), got let in, tapped my card and walked out. Excellent service.

You are welcome to take a silent stand by abstaining from the wild harvest if you want to. I for one, do not see a reason to support the anti-hunting groups in any way.

Besides, too much money is raised for the anti-hunt groups and since someone is profiting from this fight they will never want it to end either.

I don’t get how you see this? Out of everything I think people will look at farming and harvesting their own meat in a different light. Too many people dependent on the government and grocery stores. Wife and I do our own canning and I hunt. Helps a lot. We aren’t making trips out right now to the stores. I hope this virus helps people think about being more independent.

I think it becoming a time in our lives where the reliance on grocery stores needs to become reduced and self independence in foraging, gardening and preservation practice is going to the normal. Hunting, fishing, gardening, mushrooming, berries and wild fruit picking, growing your own smoke and moonshining is will become more popular than ever in the past three decades.

Time to start giving up some shit - maybe the time is right to sell the city house and move back to the country - maybe semi-civilized country.

Cutting firewood, gardens, chickens, pigs and a few steer don't sound like a bad idea anymore.

I agree, but with the FN issues, vegans on face book spouting about meat and the people on this site saying all the game is gone. Do you think we could sustain it for long ?

I see a socialist style system coming . I really don’t think they want us self reliant .

People on this site have to act like grown ups and responsible. These days everything is used as evidence especially social media including forums. People need to be more aware of what they post online and here. This is an open forum. I hope we continue to hunt and support each other, pass on traditions.

Yeah, for sure many people already living like this and I will be too once I get out of here.
However the majority of people living in cities, towns where this is simply not possible.
We already have a "socialist system" just not everybody can realize.

Yes we can sustain it to a certain degree, even though our options might be limited.

What if this China Virus was not really caused by bats, it is very selective in taking older people these are the people who will have eaten the most bats in their lifetime and therefore have the most resistance to any disease.

I for one am not buying into this crap too many coincidences, this is a man made and released virus.

This is also a dumb post and should be in an area where only members can see, even then it could be accessed and used by anti groups.

The CIA created it and released it to lessen the Chinese/North Korean “threat”. I’m guessing it got away from them.

Oh, what’s that noise? It’s a black helicopter circling my house... Damn, where did I leave the tinfoil hat??

It's thought SARS-CoV-2 jumped from bats to Pengolins, then to humans. If you pack a bunch of exotic animals together in cages and butcher facilities with unsanitary conditions, there's a much higher probability of pathogens jumping species.

Novel viruses spawn all the time in the wild, therefore even if you previously eaten bats or other exotic animals, your immune system is only resistant to what it has encountered previously and developed antibodies against. Also, you need to consider that these viruses have higher rates of mutations allowing them to change rapidly (similar to the flu annually) to escape immune detection which is a selective advantage. Its other advantage is its virulence, having an Ro of 1:2.5. Lastly, even if you've been exposed to a virus previously, "lifelong" immunity wanes over time if not re-exposed, hence why you get booster shots for pneumonia, varicella zoster etc. in your later decades of life.

With regards to eating bats, they can carry rabies in their saliva and neurological tissues, which will definitely kill you in the most inhumane way.

No kidding. Chinese protests had quite a bit of steam behind em for a minute there. No more though!
Whoops, sorry, not sorry, rest of the world!
No one gonna talk about the biochemist professor Charles lieber, arrested for passing info to the chinese, who was working in Wuhan?
