This is in the Westwold area and I have never even seen a wolf here. This was wayyy to far in the bush to be a domestic dog. Track is about 5-5.5 inches long, and I really hope I don't have to worry about wolves getting close to our calves. Any input appreciated

Um , I know some of the cattle ranchers Westwold area and they have been seeing wolves for 10 + years ....
but I will say that photo is not of a wolf ..... looks like a hand next to a canine paw print

Unless you have reason to suspect otherwise I would say wolf.

Wolf is a canine.

This is Chihuahua and you have tiny hands.

Gosh that must be a big dog/wolf to have a footprint the size of a bull Elk.

It appears to be a wolf track to me compared to this wolf track next to a 222 cartridge for comparison. Click on picture to enlarge it.

I have personally witnessed numerous wolves in that area in the last 2-3 years. How you haven’t and raise cattle there blows me away. Yes you have to worry about your calves. Yes that’s a big dog.

A work colleague of mine showed me a picture of paw prints that she took in her back yard, she lives in N van at the base of Frome Mountain in the snow. Very large. Also showed the pics to the local CO who had a funny response and said, unless you have a neighbor who has a Tibetan mastiff that they let run in the neighborhood late at night that you don't know about, it's a wolf. Probably came down to hunt domestic animals.

Looks like a wolf track or a large dog.

Saw a pack of wolves in a field about 2 or 3 km up Douglas Lake Rd west of HW 97/Westwold on a snowy early April evening a few years ago. There were there just before dark....and have seen wolf tracks in the mountains north of there too. Good luck with your calves!

There aren’t too many places in BC that don’t have wolves.

Your area may be one of the last to be impacted by wolves due to DLRs tough stance on predators.

Exactly...more wolves on the east side of OK lake, its a tough life for a wolf anywhere near the ranch, they are everywhere though.

I seen big wolf track near Roche Lake. Only 25km as the crow flies from Westwold, short jaunt for a wolf

Wolf's feet are larger than a domestic dog for ease of movement in the snow.Likely a wolf.

Yes pretty typical of the wolf tracks I see up north....front foot 3-4” wide by 3.5-4.5” long. That one is a nice one for sure and will make a good rug!
