Seen a 3x3 mule deer down by sacred Heart this evening that isn't the regular 3x3 that trick or treats at Ruppster's. Hopefully he drops them at the base of fox mountain and maybe I'll be lucky enough for a double.

Don My thoughts are no the elk numbers have not got any better in regions that have predator problems in fact the elk numbers are still
declining in high populated regions with predator problems,,,,, regions with hi predator problems will continue decline ..One reason why I found more
elk sheds last year 2019 then any other year I was in regions where the predator population was at low numbers saw no wolf scats or tracks..


So all and all whats this tell you..

I was out on another shed hunt on monday Feb 10,2020 found no WT sheds,,, was hard work out in that friggin snow and when I got into this area I wanted to check out 3 other people or maybe two others beat me to it there was footprints from one person and snowshoes tracks everywhere had to get further away from this place because i was beat to it..

I feel it today my leg mussels are sore did to much walking yesterday I was out for 8 hours and put on around 14k walking for my finds have not
been out looking for sheds for 30 days time off got me out of shape at my age closing in on 73 years old ,,going to take a few days off then go
out for another hard shed hunt eventually I will be back into shape,,being in Victoria for a month got me a little out of shape ,,still have the leg
mussels from before will take a few weeks to get them back to where they belong..:smile::smile::smile:

Interested in how I can be successful in this and hiking out with 6 children in tow because they’d sure love if we could find some. not scouting the area out I am searching in areas where there are local elk and deer there there year around I have been retired now for 12 yers and I shed hunt for exercise and to make a little cash on the side ,,sold my last bunch 4 years ago for 9 bucks a pound ,,now i heard you can get up to 12 bucks a pound for fresh elk sheds deer sheds,,I love getting out into nature where I feel its where I belong most times..

These sheds just don't jump out in front of you many many miles put on each time out anywhere from 6 to 10 miles are put on over my time out anywhere from 6 to 9 hours out in the mountains
up and down hills to find sheds,,its just not luck with my friends it's hard walking and long hors that makes it what it is ,,lots of miles for small pills over a shed year..

Hello Wayne ...I have a question...Ive noticed you find an awful lot of 5 pt sheds ...Not many 6 pt sheds ..Do you have a theory as to why ?...Also JR Koop went out shed hunting and him and a friend found lots of sheds ..same thing ...lots of 5 pt sheds..Do you think the older bulls 6 pointers are getting killed by wolves as they are more run down after the rut and are an easy target for wolves..Then maybe they dont make it to winter grounds ?...Just interested in your thoughts ....Dennis

found a honey hole that no others have found over the past years and there has to be a good number of elk within this area to drop this many antlers in March ,April ,May the past years..

If JR Koop was shed hunting in the northern part of BC many places that carry good numbers of bull elk are not in high mountains as the likes of the EK

Here in the EK the big bulls stay up in hi country where the snow depth is deep in the winter months very few of them big bulls don't come down to lower elevations some do but very few.

Why so many 5 point antlers I find my thoughts is have not made it into adult age to carry a 6 point set of antlers and most of these 5 point elk sheds I find are from local bulls that don't
leave to go up into the high elevation when the snow starts declining in April there called local bulls some of these bulls with new growth this year will be a legal bull this fall to shoot in the GOS
but not all..

All the pressure in GOS is on 6 point bulls and yes big herd bulls do get worn down after the rut and yes some do die or fall prey to predators from not being able to recover their body weight.

Your correct on predators taking some of the big bulls and predators do take smaller bulls as well ,,it's just not winter time that elk or deer fall prey to predators it's the whole calendar year
that weak or healthy bulls, cows or deer are killed by predators..

Wolves will take down the weak or the strong they keep on running after their prey till the prey is exhausted then its game over..hope this answers your question somewhat

Always a great watch.Thanks Caddisguy for your kind words its lots of work miles and effort that goes into each and every time I go out on a shed hunt elk population is down big time here where I live in the EK Cranbrook BC..

Bulls are few and far between I put on an average of 10 to 15 K each time out and lots of times only find one elk shed or deer shed sometimes nothing..

I look at it this way getting out into nature a person sees lots that they would not see around town or in your home nature gives a women or man a piece of mind being in Gods land and shed hunting gets a person into good shape if they go out on a constant base..

Shed hunting is good for the whole family love seeing families together and posting up there finds on shed nuts especially the children with that big smile on there face holding the shed they found..

I will tell you shed people a little story regarding the smallest set of wt sheds from my collection from the same buck..

I have been working this area over now for 7 years where I found the 4 matching sets of wt sheds from the same wt buck.

I thought I had only 3 matching sets of sheds from this same buck I was wrong..

Christmas came early for me the other day I got thinking that I have around 8 singles i put in a pile from within this area.

So I said to myself I will dig trough this pill of wt sheds and just see if I do have matching sides from when this deer was younger.

Long story short believe it or not I found the two matching sides in the pile,,,so happy I thought about looking into my pile of sheds
