Im trying to plan a trip to kamloops lake (Savona) area with a few buddys and my dad. I want to be there for the peak of the rut but cant figure out a good date. Im thinking Nov 10-16 or Nov 13-19. I have a week to work with, and want to make the most of it. Any advice would be a big help.

I would recommend the earlier week. I am located at Tunkwa in the hills above Savona. I've seen the mulies rutting as early as Oct.26 and as late as Nov.15 and seeing as there is a new moon on the 9th the next couple of days after that should be quite good. Best of luck.

Does they new moon or the weather play a big role in starting the rut? I've heard that a late winter will mean a late rut.

Frankly, the weather has been a joke! The hunting, however, seems to be holding its own. On Saturday there was an LEH bull taken in 3-19 as well as a spike fork bull and we had two clients hanging small to medium bucks in our meatshed. On Sunday the wind howled all day gusting to 80 kph but this week the weather is supposed to stabilize and you can expect overnight lows to -5 and daytime highs around +10. Good luck.John

Any of your dates is a Good start...for that area in particular the later the better IMO ;-)
