That porky reminds me of one LT & I saw north of Germansen on a similar road trying to get away. They are fat, round & slow -incapable of running it seems.
The porky walked to the nearest tree before looking back & was ready to climb but we were moose hunting.:p

There are so many more out there that I haven't been to. I've done one heliski trip many years ago & catskiing as well. Somehow the mechanized stuff is too hectic for me, there's something special about taking a run after you've climbed to earn the turns. We truly are blessed living in this province.

I actually started a discussion earlier this year about this guy and shared more pics. He's very close to being a 3 point so it was a would you/would you not shoot debate. Nevertheless I didn't run into him late season and next year I'm sure he'll be a 3 :)

What's also interesting is his back leg is injured and I'm curious if he got chomped by a bear because this spot in particular has an incredible amount of them

We used to call this the Bear Creek bridge, but it actually used to cross Williams Creek in the San Juan River valley on Vancouver Island. Went over it a few times when I was younger and more adventurous. Don't think I'd have the cojones to cross it today. Fortunately, I
won't have to make that decision, as it crashed to the bottom of the ravine a long time ago.

Hey Revy, at the bottom of every HBC page is a line called Quick Navigation which allows you to go from Mainland to Vancouver Island to Open chat etc. Go to Members Pictures and / or Video Links. I have posted some directions re: uploading and posting there. Hope they work for you. My first post (above) was done on my Mac, the second one using Windows 10.

Cut a few deer tracks up high but they were all headed down.

Sounds like an epic trip!!! I would love to take 4 months off and see this Great Nation. We flew to Newfoundland and then rented a jeep and explored the island for about 10 days. Was an incredible experience. Later that same year we went Coast to Coast on Via Rail and explored the rest of the East Coast once we made it to Halifax. Was quite something to see this Nation looking out the train window relaxing drinking coffee.

Bustercluck my son has that same fox 40, great bag for getting his gear up and down the mountain. Lack of a meat shelf forced me to learn how to sew though, have a frame in progress but sewed up this 55L pack bag to run on his deuter frame in the meantime. Looking forward to field testing it this spring! (apologies for breaking the rules with an "indoors" pic, field photos incoming)

That's a nice set up. How old is he and how much weight can he pack. I try and keep the kids under 20 lbs if they're going to be hiking for multiple days. I don't mind packing the extras so they can enjoy themselves

He's 10, I try and keep his loads pretty light too, last spring when he was 9 he wanted to go above and beyond my expectations for a bear pack out though...I had asked if he thought he could handle the backstraps and tenderloins plus his sleep system since that's about all he had room for in his pack. He said "how about if I carry my sleeping bag down in my arms and then I can fit a rack of ribs in too?" I was pretty damn impressed, I ended up taking the sleeping bag for him but his pack turned out to have been over 25lbs which was half his bodyweight at the time...I was wrecked for a week and he was fine the next day lol. Now he has a meat shelf so he can carry gear and meat at the same time, loosely modeled the pack and frame off the kifaru duplex and reckoning. I'll definitely post some better photos up when the frame is done. Cool to see other young kids getting after it, they'll be tougher than us in no time and we'll be the pack mules.

Start them young. My little guy is 4 in those beach pics and that's around 17km hike in. I didn't carry him at all. I think we all underestimate our kids these days these days.

Wow. I fully agree and say the same thing all the time, I'm still impressed with that though. I know my kid would give my 10 year old self a real run for my money right now and will probably smoke me up the mountain by the time he's 16...guess maybe I should think twice next time I want to rush his mid hike breaks, might be me asking for a break sooner than later lol

Ya 50cal ammo can, kinda heavy and not too packable...the lite outdoors 18" cylinder stove was a very welcome offseason upgrade this year.
