We can’t agree on much these days but we should be able to agree on at least making an effort to reduce some preds where we can.

Only one yote down for me so far and it was an incidental kill when hunting mulies in Nov.

With the cold weather on its way, it should be a good time to dig my meatcicle out of the deep freeze.

I was out today with a buddy looking for wolves. We found 1 lone track then later in the morning found 3 more travelling together.
Set up and tried some calling. No luck.
We tried another road above where we tried calling and found 4 more together on the move.We were riding our sleds slowly up an old logging road when we came across these 4.They were coming toward us then turned around.Fairly fresh tracks. It was snowing a bit so was hard to tell.
I think what happened when first tried calling the 4 were going along the road above where we were calling, heard the calling then turned around to investigate.
The snow is a few feet deep and the game has a hard time getting around. We didn't wait long enough and moved before the 4 wolves could get to our location. We stayed at our calling spot for about an hour.
Later we circled around trying to pick up their tracks and they came out of the bush on the road near where we first called.
We also saw a very large fresh cougar track early in the morning.Saw many moose and deer tracks as well as one elk track.

Hmmm, maybe the return of the HBC predator contest? I'm sure we can get a few prizes together.

The kid and I knocked over 3 yotes this fall just as incidentals while hunting mulies. Been out calling a couple times so far, but haven't called anything in yet.

I got 2 wolves on November 25 while Muley hunting. Saw their tracks on the road on the way in and I was driving home just at last light. They were snooping around the edge of a small open lake at 475 yards. They didn’t seem to notice the truck when I stopped. Shot the first one and he snowplowed into the bush. The second one just kinda walked around in circles wondering what happened. Shot him in the front leg. He spun around and I missed. Third shot him in the spine and he went down. Got to try out the 6.5 Creedmoor and zeiss rapid z.

Rackmaster Taxidermy would donate a skull cleaning on a predator skull as part of a prize package

Do Lynx count? I took a beaut yesterday with the help of my Foxpro! I won’t bother trying to post a pic on this site as it is not user friendly!
Maybe Stone Sheep Steve will do the honours? Go for it if you wish SSS.

Spring bear is the best hunt of the year, anyone who doesn’t take advantage of it doesn’t know what they are missing ! And it really helps the moose and deer, three of us in 3 years have tagged 13 bears in our deer spot and the deer numbers and the numbers of does with twins is exponentially higher than we first observed. Mind you I’ve taken several 400+LB big males...

Looks like we need some pics

Was muley hunting in late Oct and had a muley doe blow by me like something was on her heels. I snuck along for a few more minutes and managed to down this female at 20 yards with the .300wsm. Surprisingly little fur damage

Thanks SSS. You bet, if you find bunnies, you will find Lynx! Set up and calling is key, took this guy 1 hour to sneak in! The Foxpro and 22 Mag did the job effectively once again! The shot was 20 yards!

Never was interested in shooting dogs but considering all the noise about our predator issues I am glad to say I have shot one this year and one last year as well. No glory for me but I feel I did the right thing. I suppose the hunting gods looked well on me as I have done quite well the past two seasons. One Yote was small and chasing one of the largest mulie does I have seen.

3 wolves down so far. All called in by howling. Hopefully get out for some more dogs of either kind. Keep knocking em down boys and girls!

The calls work best in my opinion... also more sustainable and a lot easier on the pipes

Howled with my voice. Used an elk grunt tube to amplify and make it sound better.

was out for a quick hike in the snow looking for mulies in October. Decided to call it quits as visibility sucked, as soon as I popped back down onto the road I saw a wolf trotting up the road towards me. The 300 WBY went to work and there is one less wolf patrolling that particular valley.

I'd been busy getting into my house and properly furnishing it so hadn't been out much but seeing Ursus's cat really got me ancy.
Found a bunch of rabbit tracks and some old lynx tracks in an area so I set up. Kinda dozing off when I noticed some movement and over dramatically grabbed the gun. Such a dummy mistake as the cat caught my movement and sat there staring through some thick branches. It didn't want to go into the opening then so I decided I better take the only shot I had through the branches; which was a head shot. Shot entered just above the nostril and didn't exit.

Once the snow crusts and the dogs can walk on top I'll get out in the farmland for em.

Good job Kopper! You did it right! Where you see bunny tracks you will find Lynx! I will say cat #s are at the top of the cycle the last two years! Well done as you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!

I've shot 3 coyotes so far this season and got to watch 5 wolves and 3 coyotes interact for about 30 minutes the other morning. They were all 800+ yards from me and didn't come any closer. After the wolves left the 'yotes started yipping and yodeling and my cocker spaniel was imitating them really well, newly discovered talent, which I was hoping would bring them closer. My new dog, 4 month old puppy, was very freaked out by the whole thing and took off so I was forced to abandon the hunt but hopefully the 'yotes will start up again when we are out and I can see if I have a new weapon in my fight against them.

This morning I was out hunting on my sled.Got stuck twice.Tried calling 3 different stands. Not much fresh sign around.Very windy.Rode home at 1:30,seen squat.
i wacked a couple of coyotes and a cougar this winter but no wolves yet.The wolves seemed to have moved out of the areas I've been hunting.Seen 1 Lynx and a family of 4 bobcats crossing the highway in the last week.
