It had been a few years since I last punched a mule deer tag and I love the taste of deer steaks and roasts, so when I saw this guy, it was an no-brainer.

Pretty dam good considering how tough it is out there. Congrats. While it is Damn Tuff out there, I still had a ton of fun this hunting season. I hope the Good Ol' Days will return before I'm too old to pound up and down these mountains, but until then, I need to accept and appreciate what I currently now have. Gone are the days of '200 inches or bust' but if I can find a buck like this one every few years, I'll be happy.

I've always thought that colour comes from alder but I've never actually tested out that theory. They beat a lot of alder, birch, aspen, cedar, fir, balsam, and pine in this country.
