Got back this weekend from our sheep hunt. I'll try to keep it short. Crummy weather: snow, rain and wind. Packed into a couple of the same valleys I hit last year. On day 4 of the pack trip we got out of the tent at about 11:00am when the snow let up (we had been in the tent since 3:00 pm the previous afternoon). We started up the valley and found a group of 7 ewes and lambs from the day before and they had picked up a 3/4 curl as well that we thought was the same one that we had seen a few days earlier. After checking them over we continued up the valley only to have 7 or 8 rams jump up from being hunkered down right in the valley bottom. They were getting out of dodge so I picked the one that clearly broke the nose and dropped him at 200 yds. There was another on in the same bunch that was badly broken on one side but that would have been legal also, but big E decided to pass. Mine was not an old ram or a hawg, but he is my first and he was hard earned. Packed out that afternoon and got back to base camp at midnight. I had a group of 7 or 8 rams give us the slip in almost the exact same spot last year so it felt very good to capitalize there this year. Spent a few days relaxing (including a few trips to Liard Hot springs. Big E came in one night with a nice caribou - compact frame, but good weight and a bit of everything. I also managed to put down a 10 point moose for the freezer. Could not have asked for a better time - the comeraderie, teasing, food and flatulence were truly exceptional. Something, I think, only we outdoors people really appreciate.

I will try to get some pics up here, but If not maybe someone could retrieve them from my gallery for me.

the ram is seven years old

we had to drag middle guy from the very warm, cozy wall tent during a snowstorm to get those pics...so never mind the shoes, at least he wasn't in his gonch:eek:

Very nice moose, but just looking at a 1000 lb dead weight lying the swamp, and knowing it has to be removed and cleaned.........

Good stuff Flinch!

Those pics make it even harder to not have been up north with you guys!

Looks like a little different weather than last year.

How did Fry guy's wall tent work out? Was there a mouse infestation?

When do I pick up some meat for a starving over worked cripple?

OSW,

The tent was awesome, once they let Big E and I come in...they made us sleep in the dome for a night or two, but when we got back to camp with a sheep at midnight they fired up the shower and moved our cots into the palace for us. Mice were present, but not a big problem as there was a floor in the tent.

So you had to earn your way into the palace.....shhheesshhh

If I was on the trip and had to sleep in a dome.....I would have unzipped their tent in the night and let a few mice in to wreak havoc. Then they would have let me move in to be on mouse patrol.

I have heard it is the new way to go now for those boys. I wonder where they go the idea??;-)
