Thanks buds....about 50 lbs...I still got quite a bit of deer meat from last year too, so this supplements it nicely....

I've posted a thread on this but I'll add it, this guy is in 6 different freezers so far! Game meat diplomacy to show people that predators aren't just hunted for hides!

Well thanks but that’s a whitetail!

Due to the size of the deer I assumed it was a black tail as well.

Thanks Harry for getting this thread fired up. I've got a beauty to submit to this freezer filler thread. Last weekend, 23rd through 25th, I was on our annual whitetail hunt from Kamloops to my buddy's cabin in the west Kootenays. I was able to connect on this fella 45 mins before last light. I am very pleased with this young buck. He is all processed and in the deep freeze. I've got 28 lbs of trim to make Polish sausage, as well as taking all the obvious roasts, tenderloins, stew, chops, shanks and jerky etc. I love frying up heart as well. All in all, he will be delicious. He was 88 lbs hanging without hide. I am most proud of making a fantastic shot on this deer. Didn't touch either shoulder. Zero meat damage. He was only running on adrenaline after my well placed shot connected. I only had sprinting hoof prints in the snow to follow as there was only a pin drop of blood every second bound. He only dashed 30 yards in the thick woods but with light fading and heavy snow, a hunter is always concerned about making a recovery in those conditions. I currently have the skull in the peroxide bath as per Dougans thread. It has easily been my best season ever. 2 black bears and now a freezer full of tasty, young whitetail.

Small freezer for me.................just moved back to BC and am enduring the 6 month wait until I can be considered a resident. Was so distressed about no hunting the wife and I forked out for the non-resident licence and upland birds. Ouch! :) Saw some great bucks and bulls while out looking for a few "chickens". Anticipating next fall..............

I had no idea people eat cougar . Okay hold the jokes I know what your thinking ! Are cougars not strictly carnivores ?

I can see eating bear and have done so myself but they are omnivores .

Just can’t see eating animals that just eat meat .

I asked the same question ... apparently quite a few people do eat them and quite a few people do like them.

I'm with you though .... I'm not eating anything that is a carnivore.

Still have to "watch" what I get up too, but with a scope is OK for most work.
Can't deal with iron sights any more unless it is simply a point and shoot at close range scenario...
Is what it is, and at least I am still getting out there!

Miss you too Buddy!
Perhaps we will have to work on setting something up for next fall - unless your relentless WunderLust hits you again! LOL
From those two pics you just posted, it is somewhat obvious you NEED me to visit!! ;-)

Cheers!!

I've got some cougar meat in the freezer from my Dad's cougar he got a year ago. Pulled cougar is out of this world! Put it in the crock pot with chicken stock, some veggies copped up, had a bit of spices rubbed on the big cougar ham, a little of this-and-that. Let it go all day and it pulled apart like a dream, tasted so good I didn't even put any barbecue sauce through it like pulled pork would have. Fed it to a bunch of people for a friends going-away party that night, including 6 non-hunters. Everyone loved it and went back for seconds!

I've also done a couple of smaller hams with a coffee rub in the oven, I let them cool off after cooking then slice them long and real thin, fry them up with breakfast the next day and it tastes like bacon. Cougar is in my top 3 favorites.

For this above reason and being an ungulate killing machine Id love to harvest...... Ive always wanted one. Hopefully some day maybe a proper opportunity will occur.

Decided to check out an area I've been meaning to explore for a while now, and found this guy about 100 yds from the road. Had spent all fall hiking all over the place without much luck, it was nice to get an easy buck. Quick down-hill drag on a dusting of snow, straight into the back of my truck in the ditch.
