After calling a big five point during archery season and then another 5 point during rifle season in another area, my uncle and I finally called one in that was big enough. We got an answer just after first light from the road in this beautiful cutblock so we got ready to go after him. Of course right then a pickup comes along and stops to "chat". Needless to say we sent him packing in a hurry as the answering bull was within 200 yards! We made our way towards him and stationed ourselves behind a small bush and kept calling. Well he came right in and I made the call with the binos and Uncle shot him. Down he went and we were pretty happy to say the least! Luckily my work partner was in the area and we dragged him whole to a pull-out on the side of the main road right beside our truck. It doesn't get much easier but it still is a lot of work. This is one of the first if not the first one taken in Ft. St. James this year as the unhunted big ones are now dwindling and are not simply running around here and there anymore. Here are some pics. Enjoy

Yeah there's lots of moose there but also some elk; when the season openned for the first time about five years ago there were quite a few monster bulls around but now they have been thinned out and are hard to find unless you know exactly where they hang out this time of year.

Congrats on a beautiful bull. They are really into it right now. The wife and I seen two groups last night travelling back to Tumbler Ridge from Dawson Creek. Both bulls were good sized with plenty of cows.

As for his age, I think that he was pretty old as his ivories were worn down to the gumline. He actually had quite a few tears in his hide and bruises so there is prob. a bigger bull or at least as big nearby. I've already sent a local friend on its trail, hopefully he connects.

I was supposed to be coming up that way in 2 weeks but after a year of planning, the guy I was going with kindly admits 2 days ago he never got the go ahead from his uncle to bring a couple friends
Too bad because we were WAY too early on our elk hunt in the EK and it woulda been nice to have a second shot to use my elk tag.
