Hi All, I thought I would ask the question...if you could only hunt one species (LEH included) what would it be?

Whenever people ask which is my favourite gun I answer "whichever I'm holding".

Same for hunting... pretty much always the hunt I'm on.

All game is my favorite, but they all have different qualities. Elk screaming at you in under 10 yards, bull moose thrashing everything in site in front of you, black/grizzly stalking until they realize your there and it’s flight or fight. Mule deer hiding under a rock (or so they seem), Whitetail as fast as a cheetah, blacktail the ghost and on and on. They’re all my favorite.

Love elk, but waterfowling is quickly gaining ground

Lots of elk lovers I see, I really need to try hunting them some day, never have before.

My personal favourite animal to hunt would have to be mountain goats

white tails have been very good to me....love the meat and have had a reasonably good success rate...…. but waterfowl hunting is among the most exciting...especially when bluebills are coming in several hundred to a flock making that scream like a jet engine as they go to land in the decoys...I haven't even hunted waterfowl in around 20 years but my heart races at the thought

Growing up on the Island I've come to love the challenge of blacktails. Everything else is enjoyable but blacktails get my blood pumping.

Whitetail for me, a bit of a challenge and I've definitely learned from a few misjudgments while hunting them

Favorite: mule deer
Least favorite: waterfowl ... way too much work without a gun dog

The poor mans sheep; aka goats. The places they inhabit, the effort (usually) required to take a big billy, and the magnificent coat once haired up.

Mule deer in the alpine for me.

Early season alpine mule deer. Tasty, challenging and by far the most spectacular place to be for sure. Goats would be a distant second. The interactive nature of Elk in the rut could displace muleys if I gave it a chance.

Whitetails have been the food staple for me...but I love hunting all ungulates and black bear, I really need more time to get into goats...

Definitely Elk, especially in the rut...Mule deer are a close second.

Spot and stalk bear hunting above alll else.
Grouse hunting is a close second for the exact opposite reasons.

Next year im going to jump both feet into elk, with 6 weeks off mid aug and all September, so if you ask the question again then... it may just change !!

I am a Monday to Friday worker throughout hunting season so getting out of the Okanagan does not work for me. So, my favorite is bow hunting whitetail. Starting to get interested in spot and stalk Mulies (So far without success). Would love to have the time to dedicate to elk or moose but that may need to wait until retirement. Not complaining, it just is what it is! Grateful for the opportunities I do have!

For me nothing beats watching the biggest land animal in North America pile up in his tracks after being hit by something the size of a pebble. Gotta be Moose Hunting.

Black bear in the spring and moose in the fall. Whatever it takes to get out though, that grouse I saw while working yesterday got me excited! Haha.

Sounds like Elk are top of the list! Thanks for all the responses. I find sometimes I want to hunt every species but I'm trying to tone that down and target specific species now. Next year, going to focus on Elk!

Mule deer in the Alpine early Sept or mid Nov rut tops my list but really hard not to like Elk hunting and Stone Sheep hunting, reality is as long as were able to hunt in BC its a good thing no matter what you hunt.

glad I am not the only one that feels this way, been busting my ass lately learning all I can about the quarry, they landscape and kicking my ass into gear so I don’t die chasing sheep or goats haha

Tough to pick between caribou and sheep since both get me into some beautiful areas.

Way to go RyoTHC ! And sure glad I'm not alone in my quest ! If I could go to the grave having harvested an elk, goat, the different sheep, caribou ,black bear I would be content . But you know it's more than that as would love to see some of the habitat those critters live in . Have hiked into some high places, but was not hunting just hiking .GeeezI better get going I'm not getting any younger ! Good Luck in the future, hope all can chase their dreams !

Grouse with my son and Lab. Watching the two of them in grouse country is pretty rewarding.
