Ok all youse experts. Elk or very large deer? Looked largish for deer to my inexperienced eye. Somewhere in an MU8 in the wilderness far, far away.

Sometimes with photos you need to "add perspective", like a lighter or bullet (mention caliber in it).
A photo just like this is hard to say.
Could it be elk, yes.

At first glance , I would say deer , the tracks would positively identify .... kinda silly to ask unless you are just fishing to see who answers .

Well perspective, yes, that would be good. But I don't generally carry a ruler when I'm out for early bow season. Not fishing for anything but some advice from experienced tracker dudes & dudettes. I've seen plenty of Mule Deer droppings in my yard in Vernon, none of them come close to the size of the nuggets I present here. Not much to be seen in the way of tracks near the scene, there were some larger hoofprints along the hike. I have tags for both species of deer, moose & elk in my pocket.

Funny the responses a simple request elicits. Have fun folks!

I’m sorry, just couldn’t resist. As said above, something of a known size for perspective would be helpful. My guess would be mule deer. Enjoy the weekend.

Thanks all for the input. Keep hoping it might be Elk but as suggested by several, might be a large buck deer. Location is up in the Monashees in an MU-8 that borders on an MU-4.
