I've been spending quite a lot of time in my treestand this year with no close encounters, other than one small suicidal black bear that got a pass on death. I watched this guy and a 2 pt several times without them ever coming near my stand.
Anyway, this morning was no different with this spiker and some girl friends coming into feed from yet another access trail a hundred yards away. After about 20 minutes I bailed out and stalked to within 15-17 yards before letting an arrow fly. He was standing broadside and I had a complete through and through. I gave him considerable time to bed down and die as this was my first bow-killed deer and I didn't want to push him and lose an animal.
Now that my freezer buck is out of the way, I'll be holding out for a mature 4pt.
