Hey folks,

Looking for a general assessment of the elk situation south of Fauquier. Last time I was there, for work, it seemed like they were everywhere. But that was a decade ago and I know things aren’t as good with elk in the west kootenays these days.

The last population survey I could find was 2012 and they seemed to still be in good shape then.

Any info much appreciated. Trying to get my brothers-in-law into hunting and they want to try for elk, I’m more of a moose and mule deer hunter myself.

Chinese have found out about that area. Everywhere they go the animals get wiped out. get used to it. They buy up all the tags, and go out in huge parties.

Well that’s not encouraging. Shame that people squander resources like that.

The Hascarls, Scowans and others have gutted rhe populations

I'd like to know where you are getting your info from...making libel coments like that is pretty serious!!!

I know both those families And I'd put their character up against an internet cowboy any day...

Where you getting this intel Mike? My family hasn’t taken one bull elk there yet? Suggest you get your facts straight first prior to posting.

what has devastated the ungulate population are wolves and cougars.

Know the Hascarls quite well. They have done well with elk in the Nakusp area and have done it legally and ethically. I am sure they will be quite interested in your wrongful use of there name on this web site. You post about the Hascarls and the Scowans on here and people who do not know these families will take you at your word. Only once you are called out by Brambles do you say you were joking. Shame on you, this is a great example why people are leaving this site. Thanks Brambles always look forward to your threads.

If you think that using family names in this context is clearly joking, you must know him. I think a mod should start deleting some posts on this thread.

In summation, as good a place as any to check out, but we may find ourselves in the middle of a Hatfield and McCoy style dispute this thread started.

Meanwhile Wing Wang Woo and his communist drones are wiping out wildlife at alarming rate. Selling it to rich Chinese...I know it's hard to believe some of them are rich.

Dogs being wolves?

That seems to be pretty well the whole province.

To bad the thread went sideways off the start.
I am sure there are elk in there and as one member said, wolves.
That is just the new norm now and will make it tougher but I think to the OP, it is worth hitting the area, imo.

Maybe one should not hunt there.

He was last seen wearing camo pants, a black T-shirt and was barefoot.
