Thought I’d switch it up from all the LEH questions. What’s everyone’s hunting setup for being in the bush? Either renting, camper , trailer etc. Just curious to why you chose your particular setup and why you like it?

Myself i I have a truck camper that I take with me. Just a basic unit , keeps me dry and warm with a pellet stove inside. I like that I can pretty much get anywhere with it , take off truck if I want to “road hunt” or explore new terrain. Tried adding a picture but said I couldn’t there was an error.

One thing id like to add or improve is the ability to take an ATV with me. Right now I spot and stalk hunt, so truck is base camp and hike from there. An ATV for myself would open up a lot more terrain to explore and better my chances when out hunting. So I would like to purchase a small trailer and atv in the near future to take with me on hunts.

So just interested in hearing everyone else's setup and what they like about it when hunting

I just bought an Alaknak Tent from Cabela's, still need to buy a stove for it. I'm picking it up next weekend and will be working through my setup.

I've got a pickup, Honda 300 ATV and a good pair of boots to get me to where I want to go. Going to be a good year, with 3 of my kids getting there CORE this summer

I've used this wall tent for years for moose and deer huntinghttps://lh3.googleusercontent.com/fdgnVGIVP1GIqba1x4UQZpw_wyW35L4yyPMCXhMjiOuRw86ReY oUZt_Xfe_qwCjCLb4FfX3Jw0reGg57D47UdiwVwr8HVVVpGCzI DSw7ZuHvizIigPR77NrHW_rnzomYovuvr6EIq5nhmLKl-kHcaz05QOmsnBAmJnDBSXYE_15-YdsF48jEqCGepB85PZxgVXRH8INVANmYpIOUV47IJzHHgqcoKz RuB34JIabaQdRCV4l095C4NJHjtBg9dQ1sgMJjNneFSFgmYGcG jQwFjentH8OKxzhqMWE7e69KlykB9eYwSA2k0JHNL2q1dVbKcK pcnQi2nGQwWXd_dGIxPq37Eg1LheN4LVFux0DKvJNn3Wd_FipR JXovrduOc6hgNaRhZ6DOodLc5q2AXYQamDqDhNHR92m-_g8oovsX8jN6klxyz0tw6Z0Jbtw4DMBC2bRtFdm2G1eEBnzXF3 oEujB7IaCXw6oFJxWjpp2iCblOBrVR2OECXmjs3ZzoGm0BV_Gz ynLw6hT-NIkCsNE12aPPmPDHPK0uLRT6exf5gXuX2XTv78A5x9A3xB-wiRrIdxbv8oKrhONzB1R4Vcy7qr9IA_Fh69lm24oV7OWJ1R4Ii 4H3EtHj_BRBm5cI5I5SLAbRoqZetsHbqtkx4uD1yD1KfloQjVo =w812-h609-no.Mostly late season deer hunting when it can get cold enough to freeze a deer almost solid over night.Keeps us warm with the wood stove.Easy to cook in.Feels like you are out hunting.

I use a 12X15 Walltent with an internal frame and a woodstove. I also use a 10X10 Costco Garage for a cookshack. Very comfy for up to 4 guys. Use pick-up, ATV and boots for transport. Haul the ATV in pick-up and have an 8' enclosed trailer for all other gear.

We usually stay in motels, but have a 12×14 wall tent and new Pioneer diesel heater I hope to begin using.

Also, older ranger and new utility trailer. No atv.

I have a 10 x 12 wall tent with a second 10 x 12 frame that I drape a tarp over the whole thing with my wood stove. I also use a 10 x 10 Kodiak canvas tent for early-season and now we'll be using the seek out side Cimarron lightweight setup

For fly in hunts..mountainhardware tent.....
For non fly in..citation 27 fot TT...then 2019 Honda 500 Atv...so far been working well.
Good idea on ATV..often put 20 kms just getting to area I want to hunt..and from base camp.maybe 5 areas to hunt.

I’m liking everyone’s different setups so far! From being a kid I always wanted a camper. My uncle started Bigfoot Campers and travel trailers. Actually the camper I have currently was made by my uncles son and is a one of a kind half ton truck camper.

Definitely will be purchasing an atv this year so I am able to get further into the backwoods Srupp

One of our favourites we call E-CAMP(named after Eve) for many years. North of Gang.

Deer & moose within easy walking distance. Even the wolves visit but never the bears although there are many in the area.
The private toilet is about 120' away.

Our campfire always has a culvert band surrounded by large rocks/boulders with a steel pail full of water.
It reflects considerable heat.

Northern Lite since '96 for Eve & I

My first camper around 1970 was an Alaskan. Never had to remove it-only lower it to canopy level. Before that it was tenting or sleeping in vehicles.

Same moose as above. The camper below (1984) in the Gang area was my third one.

12x14 deluxe walltent with wood stove.

When flying solo, I camp in my truck canopy, can even fit a cot in there. I also own a 11'6" Stryker inflatable I bring if I can camp on a lake. Hubba nx2 for backpacking trips

It's a different thing for a different hunt.

Lots of hunts have been what you carry in your pack and start hiking, so a light tent is nice and I've slept many nights under just tarps- blue tarps and high tech tarps included.

Horseback hunts are similar but the more horses, the more stuff you can take...

I also spent lots of time hunting with a camper on my truck, but it was mostly when I could get to town every few days.

In my opinion, the wall tent is the king of cold weather hunting camps. A couple of days in a regular tent, a camper trailer or camper on a truck is fine in the cold, but nothing beats firing up a wood stove in a wall tent.

First of all great thread. Second of all sounds like you have a good set up! Get that quad and trailer you won’t regret it!

I use a 12x14 wall tent with wood stove, a camper on a 4x4 truck, light weight backpack dome tent and sometimes just sleep in the river boat...depends on what I'm hunting for and where I'm going.

The big hunts I've got a 12x14 Deluxe Wall tent with an additional 8' room sewn to it with a frame. We can open the interior door right up and make the living space really big, or use the front room for cooking and storage. Shorter hunts I sleep on a single mattress the back of my F350 with a canopy. Mountain hunts I have Kuiu Summit Shelter and may add the stove before it's too cold this fall.

I just acquired a 10x12 wall tent with frame. Will be using that from this point fwd for main camp.

When I'm out for overnight spike out or backpack hunting, go with my backpacking gear. We always have out backpack bags ready to go in the truck. Been more than a few occasions when we just stayed where we were at the end of the day to avoid a lengthy drive to and from main camp. "Usually happens when we spot a goat or elk we want to get up and at real early.

I will also when the situation suits it, just sleep in the box of the truck.

You can't beat a wall tent with a stove. If its cold or wet this keeps you comfortable, drying out everything everyday. I have a trailer that I use for the hot dry easy access hunts, I have 2 different sized wall tents for most of our fall hunts and group size.

16ft cargo trailer with wall hung bed and lots of clothes hanging places. This allows me to take the ATV and dirt bike. Set up next to trailer is wall tent for conversation and cooking.

Coleman tent and lots of firewood. SUV with a trailer and ATV to get into remote areas and to haul back game. If it's cold, we take the rocks around the fire and put them on a cement board in the tent to take the chill out. Good sleeping bag and a hot water bottle helps. Will look at a wall tent or tent trailer at some point.

Like Gate I have climbed to the alpine and slept under a tarp. I've also brought a minimal one man tent and for backpacking to the alpine.

Normally I just live out of the back of my truck and sleep in the canopy. On longer trips I'll set up a tent so I can use the truck to get around. I got an old wall tent last year and set it up for a 10-day moose hunt. It has no stove yet but I don't anticipate camping out in November. Not this year anyway.

Hunted with a buddy with health issues and we motel camped it. With no kitchenette you should have seen how I cooked including boiling eggs inside the kettle.

So it depends on the situation.

This is the first camper I have built for myself, its 8ft, no fridge or furnace, it will have an stove/oven, wood heater, led lighting. Everything is reclaimed from other campers I have owned and destroyed, it has no tin and is all plywood, adding stuff as I go.
I like a camper as I can pack up and move in 10 minutes, warm and dry, I think this one will work on a 1/2 ton truck weight wise but I will be packing it on a 1 ton.

The cargo trailer has a quad, a geny and freezer among other miscellaneous stuff

This year will be different as we had a 96 ford f150 4x4 with a 6" lift that we got rid of this year. This truck took us any place we wanted to go. We used to sleep in the back under the canopy. Kind of rough but I really liked it. Drove found a spot and get out and walk or set up camp and go. So easy.
Now this year we are taking the dodge truck and found out the camperette does fit on this truck. We used the camperette a few times on the ford.
So it will be different as we will not be going to our usual spots to go hunting as some of those spots were pretty crappy to get into.
The camperette will be good if it rains. But still I liked sleeping in the canopy. So more walking.
Or besides that I get to sleep in my own bed as we will be doing more region 2 hunts just day trips closer to home.

This thread has got the gears turning in my head.
I usually sleep in the canopy of my truck. It is comfortable and dry for sleeping. I put the tail gate down to cook on. It has some drawbacks though. It's very difficult to dry out boots and clothes. When cooking on the tailgate rain and snow often blow onto my sleeping bag. On the other hand there is no set up or take down of camp.

I also hunt out of my cabin which is nice. Running water and a furnace are wonderful things but my place doesnt have the greatest hunting so it's a trade off.

Under the canopy on my 1 ton, or on the floor in the back seat of the same truck if I have a bike or boat in the back.
The backseat folds flat in my 4runner, and I have spent a lot of nights back there.
Either truck, I use a 10x10 easy up shelter with a folding table, and a lantern hung from the middle for a cook shack.
I have an MSR elixir 2 I'll be trying out this year for a small tent.
I'd like to get a wall tent this year or next.

Photo reminds me of a similar campsite north of Germansen. :-P

We used a similar campsite(see photo below) since '68-first using tents.
More than a handful of moose were shot in the area ahead of the swampy pond & 1/2 way up the mountain. The biggest moose we shot was less than 1km from the camp.
LT & I just arrived the day before 9/11. At daybreak (9/11) I saw a cow moose with 2 very large calves. A short distance later saw a big timber wolf.

I'm going to buy a canvas tepee (bell tent), 13 feet in diameter. Put a small wood stove in it. They are cheap at $560. Great reviews and so much easier to set up than a wall tent. One centre pole and one door pole. Will be fine for 2 of us. Anyone have one of these, please feel free to share your experience.

I run a Kifaru 6 man tipi with a lite outdoors stove for fly in base camp. It’s great for 3 guys and gear. Make sure you have a liner in the tipi. Condensation can be an issue. We use msr hubba 3 and Hilley Anjan backpack tents for sheep. I also have a capital canvas hybrid wall tent with stove. Nylon walls and canvas roof. Going to use it for elk camp this fall.

What kind of pellet stove do you have? I've never seen one that could be run off 12V or do you run a genny or inverter for 120V?

Sorry I don’t know how to upload from my iPhone. Pellet stove I meant wood burning stove. The inside is like 8”x8” usually burn little chunks of birch wood, gives off good heat burns long.

Warmer hunts use a bigfoot camper pulling 6 x 12 enclosed. Late fall use enclosed that is equipped with diesel heater. Enclosed stores quad and sets up in minutes. Usually hunt solo now so is enough room and stay very cozy and dry.
