So we're taking the kids out of school for a couple days and making it an extra long long may long:grin:

I've hunted east of Quesnel for Bears around Barkerville but usually not until end of may.. first week in June or second week of June depending on snow levels

This time because of the boys time off we're stuck being unflexible... I was thinking of driving out west of quesnel setting up camp and then driving out of there exploring... we ve had good luck out west before although it was later in may again..

Any suggestions we have endless bear tags and no game meat in the freezer.. not looking for rugs or mounts just want to whack and stack to keep our food bill down and save some moose..

Black bear Sows with cubs have been seen but no boars yet. They are hungry. No grass yet to bring the boars out!
1 Grizzly is out. Seen tracks.

400 and 200 Rds make a nice loop and hold bears.

bears are out everywhere now, anything that dens longer than now is dead. The next month is best bear hunting of the year, get out and they are road side eating grass

Just starting to be ok in pokers here but 7-10days will be deadly.

I am head your direction next weekend because Smithers is usually 1- 1 1/2 weeks ahead with green up ;)

Pack a boat and cruise to Rainbow Alley, catch a pile of rainbows on the fly, then drive home at dusk and see multiple bears. Cast and Blast

Hmmm too early this year near Barkerville...heading west should prove more productive.
Im headed out in a few days but much lower elevation..Horsefly area..normally when we see dandelions in W.L.bear hunting is good..Mothers day is my favorite and most productive black bear day.

Being a local and having hunted bears here for decades....i would say the highest densities these days are out west. Earnst rd, garner rd, abbot heights....lots of spots to set up a camp...or for an actual forestry site, fish lake is centrally located to hunt any of the above as well as the lavington rd/ramsey creek area. Anywhere out the blackwater rd would also be a good bet!
Good luck!

^ I agree with willy
If you are using a truck, fish lake is a good central spot.

Saw quite a few last weekend. Many way up in the poplar trees.

Are you taking an ATV?

If you are, I'll pm you a great spot out west that needs some bear pruning.

No ATV, just a couple pick up trucks, 4 hunters 15 and under and 3 adults, would like to do some walking as the wife hates driving a lot..although it seems to be the best way to cover ground and see bears in most cases.

We have 7 hunters in our crew, gonna bring a littlw freezer along so we can quarter and freeze them right away..

Also any recomendations for some good trout fishing spots? Be cool to have a cariboo surf n turf!

Nothing around yet but a small guy. No grass to draw out the big guys yet around here.
Still snow in the bush here.

Fish lake will provide you plenty of rainbows of the pan fry size. Small fish but plenty of them

Was a fun weekend camping, had a bunch of chances on bears..ended up with 2 for our family, one 5 footish bear and this one...skull squared at 19 5/8, good bear for my sons first bear...shot another big one but never found it..none of the bears left any blood trail, all bled internally, one dropped on the spot the other we had to search for..

I got 30lbs of packaged meat off the 5 footer..havent cut up the bigger one yet but should get 4 x that based on the game bags..had ground bear tacos for lunch, tastes amazing!

Maybe someone can tell me how to make the pic show up..

Congrats on the bears, a fun family outing and the meat score.

For pictures, if you right click on the image from imgur and click "Copy Image Location" you get this when you paste next: (Note: If you are doing it from a phone, I think pressing down on the image on imgur will let you copy the image URL... there is a way, but it should end in jpg like the link below)

To embed it on the forum, you can enclose it in IMG tags, which I will spell incorrectly (on purpose) for the example:

Without the extra M, the result when you save the post is:

Boiled and pressure washed the skull today, here's a side by side of the skulls from a big fall bear from last year, seen in the picture below, makes it look tiny lol, the smaller skull is plastic wrapped as we're in renos and everythings boxed away..

Beauty bear for a first, or any time that is!
From the skull it is easy to determine he was an older warrior.

Congrats to your Young Gun! https://www.tnof.ca/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/Pozitive.gif
