Around Westbridge saw a 5 pt whitetail on April 10 back around 1986 . He probably lived in a 1/4 mile square with no fences

When there was still LEH for turkey around Creston we saw a young WT still with half of headgear just before the beginning of May. The same trip on the same day we saw a 5pt. bull elk and two other bulls that had their new antlers already sprouting.

I have always seen small bucks with their gear as late as april. Takes the wind out of your sails when you are shed hunting!

Been seeing the same little spiker out near vanderhoof lately. Also a nice mature buck with headgear about 2 weeks ago.

Two good bucks fighting on a lawn in Oak Bay on the news yesterday, both had full set of head gear, I thought they would have shed by now and anything on their noggins would be in velvet.

That's gotta be very late. I have seen good antler growth in velvet in early May.

Is it possible that these deer everyone are seeing are "pet" deer that are getting fed by people on a daily basis thru the
winter?
And would that effect them holding on to their antlers so late?

group of 4 bucks in telkwa, 3 were still packing. One 2 point and 2 were 4pt bucks not huge but big enough to count easily driving by at 80km/hr and while my wife was harassing me to keep my eyes on the damn road. April 2nd I think.

They must be getting fed on the side??
Makes no sense to me.
I don't think that is normal.
Sounds like they will only drop them when the new nubs start to come thru.
Or, we are going to have some spectacular non-typicals running around soon???

High wide 2x2 in my yard here yesterday. He was trying to eat buds off my little apple tree. Can you say Crossman .177 in the ass?

I see it in the 'city' deer often. Especially at the land fill, everyone is dumping off their hedge trimmings and feeding the deer year round. With a food source year round they fawn at very odd times too, and the bucks sport antlers at anytime as well. I guess because they are breeding at anytime. Timing of food source/supply dictates when the does will breed in a normal environment. I assumed this year round food supply affects these off season bucks.
