I did not see a forum heading for "Stupid questions" so thought I would ask this one here:

I haven't used a trail cam before as ducks don't really show any interest but wonder what the effective range of one is? Do they all take reasonable pictures out to say 40' or are there specialty cams for distances beyond a certain point? (By reasonable I mean you can discern the features of whatever critter you are looking at on it). Thanks. B

They all have different trigger ranges. 40 feet should be easy to do lots are 60-100 feet I think

you can also set them to take a photo or group of photos throughout the day without being triggered, so if you have a field your watching you can set it to take photos every half hour from dawn to dusk and it does not need to be triggered.

I have my cams within 10-15ft of my target spots.
Produces awesome footage.
Dont let it stare at the sun.
Clear anything that moves and may trigger unwanted.
I use 32gb cards and have them set to trigger fast with multiple pics taken.
Check them every month.

Some brands have good range......other brands not so much
