Well though I share in my over night scouting excursion for moose and deer. We have a draw for late October and though we learn the lay of the land before our hunt. First off this area (reg5) that we were in had massive cuts everywhere because of the bug kill I was just simply awe struck of the terrian and beauty of this area.
Not as much grouse as I thought or heard from friends and people on this site however it was in the high 20's and nothing wanted to move. Saturday evening only saw about six two ruffy and four spruces, my cousin first time hunting got very excited and missed his shots with the 22 on the sprucies at 30 yards away. I was able to take two of the four with my single shot 20 before the others spooked.
Sunday morning further exporing the area we follow some tracks into the bush following a two point we saw. Had heard something russle about 75-100yrds away. Raking branchs and making noise, it was a moose. Couldn't see it because the cover was dense but was able to call it in to about 50 yrds. Very cool couldn't get a picture to dense.
After we left the area we went to walk some cuts and saw a beautiful bull standing on a ridge in a middle of a cut. It was 100 yrds away and was able to call it in to 50 yrds. Very, very cool.

The area is beautiful but truly, truly saddened about what the beetle has done to the area. I shall return for our moose, but and am totally phyched that I called in two moosies. VERY COOL first time experience.
