It's all about counting sheep and spending some time with good people!

We are in the process of growing this event with the goal of making it more family friendly.

The count itself runs from 7 AM until 1 PM.
There are different areas that people are sent to in groups to count sheep. We then meet back at the campground and hand in data sheets.
We are hosting a 'By Donation' BBQ after the count at the campground and will have some cool prizes to give away for adults and youth from Sitka Gear, we will also have a pair of Crispi boots. All youth prizes will be free, but some of the adult prizes will be entered by donation ($20 per entry). We will also be giving away WSSBC gear.

We are encouraging folks to camp with us on Friday and/or Saturday at the Spences Bridge Recreation Campground (https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHZL_enCA731CA731&q=spences+bridge+recreation+site&npsic=0&rflfq=1&rlha=0&rllag=50290446,-121206503,18398&tbm=lcl&ved=2ahUKEwiiy8677JHhAhWGtp4KHZNQDagQtgN6BAgKEAQ&tbs=lrf:!2m1!1e2!2m1!1e16!3sIAE,lf:1,lf_ui:1&rldoc=1#rlfi=hd:;si:;mv:!1m2!1d50.425222019950375! 2d-121.31663363951589!2m2!1d50.41439386070072!2d-121.3488201476946!4m2!1d50.41980824974959!2d-121.33272689360524!5i16).
This portion of the weekend is not officially hosted by us and people are required to BYO everything.

More comfortable lodgings can be found at the Acacia RV Park (http://www.acacia-rvpark-cabins.com/) as well for those interested.

We have had a lot of positive feedback so far.

I should add that the Kamloops Lake sheep counts are done on Sunday, April 7th. Great way to spend a weekend by combining the counts.

For complete info on that head to their website http://kdfga.ca/upcoming_events.htm

I went last year and took my oldest boy along. He was 9 years old. We had a great time father and son bonding. He talks about it all the time and I don't know how many times he's asked me if we can do it again. He wears his WSSBC hat that he got for participating, every day. Alas, we can't make it this year, but hopefully next year. It's a long drive from Golden, but it's a great way to get out and do something good for conservation.

Awesome, I'm taking my 9 year old up this year...went over the classification sheet with him last weekend and watched some sheep videos with him for practice, he's getting excited!

I went over Saturday morning and unfortunately I didn't stick around for the after count get together. Our zone had a grand total of ZERO sheep but we managed to count 32 in the one behind us. It was a great day!

It was a great day, met few people from forum, my son had incredible time, and next year I think we'll camp and spend a day there. Drive from Burnaby and back in the same day after getting up at 2am to make it on time was a bit exhausting. BBQ was great, for the first time ever I tried cougar sausage and it was great. Many thanks to organizers and Brad for working on BBQ and for getting that cougar. :)

Another great event put on by WSSBC! In some of my favorite areas this province has to offer.

Second year in area 5 and was great hanging out at the Goldpan camp site and getting to meet many new and great people.

Worst part about it is the wait of another year until we get to do it all over again

Thanks WSSBC and Sitka for the great weekend as well as Reliable for donating some goodies. My daughter and I had a great time. Its always fun hanging out with Weatherby Fan, Remington Jim, Blockcaver and Kyle(cant remember your HBC handle). Luca77 and his son were a great addition to our crew this year and it was a pleasure meeting you guys. It was great seeing a good show of women and children camping out as well. I have a feeling it will be even bigger again next year.

Now if we could only silence those bloody trains LOL

Haha. Cant take credit for spotting the rams, that was Naomi and Peter.

Gone are the days that 20-30 would meet at the gas station and hand out maps and go for a beer and burger at the pub at the end of the day. Was shocked to see how many people camped out Friday Night.

As others have mentioned it was a great day. Met a few new people who I recognized from the sheep society but never knew their handles here. Hats off to the people (Peter and Naomi, Im sure there was a bunch more) who put this together to make it a great day.

As Blockcaver said, winning a Sitka Timberline jacket:razz: was the cherry on top of a great day. Hats off to Sitka for sponsoring the Wild Sheep Society.

Big thank you to the WSS for putting it on and to Sitka for the jacket my son took home, we'll be back next year for sure with some earplugs for that damn train!

Amateur:mrgreen: Spend a couple days in the fall there and one gets used to it. Just means you will be looking for rams in the morning. I'm a light sleeper and what gets me is the head light from the train. Theres been more then once that i have jumped out of bed thinking somehow the truck and camper were parked on the tracks with how bright that light is.:o

Thank you all for coming out!

We weren't sure how it was going to turn out this year with the changes we had planned, but it appears to have been a pretty big hit(except the trains!).
As you guys have already mentioned it took many people to bring it all together and we look forward to doing it all again next year!

Thank you to Sitka Gear, Crispi Boots, and The Rookie Hunter Podcast for the raffle prizes. Thank you to Reliable Gun for coming up and letting folks borrow and/or check out all the great optics!

Sheep #'s

41 Rams (no class 4's so I suspect you were hiding them from me!)
132 Ewes
53 Lambs
5 Unclassified

I will be sending out emails to as many of the volunteers as I have contact info for to ask for your feedback on the count, but if you don't get an email from me and see this then please send me a pm.

Cheers,

Peter

EDIT: I missed a few sheep initially.
