There are a number of cougar hunters here, I am sure they have lots that coul be taught to you..

I have no clue. Always wanted to hunt cougars, but no hounds, dont' know anyone wiht them, and no real desire to add some hounds to my GF's frickin zoo that she introduced to my home:eek:

I too am interested in hunting cougars but fear one needs to be a superb athlete to keep up with the pack of hounds in deep snow...

there is a group called the southern interior houndsmen association based out of the south okanagan/similkameen. Get a hold of SHAKER on this site as I think as of last night he might be their new pres. He left to go north this am so wait a couple of weeks.

Every guy that has hounds and hunts cats probably has a list as long as their arm of buddies that want to go cat hunting. You may get invited on a cat hunt but it may take many trips before you are the shooter.

your best bet is to join your local fish and game club and see if you can hook up with a local houndsman. offer to help out and just go along for the ride, training etc . most houndsmen be reluctant to take people if all they want to do is kill an animal instead of appreciating hound hunting and everything that goes along with it.
If you want to just get a cat I am sure there are guides that can offer that service for you..

You need dogs to hunt cougars? A BMW 3-series and cigarellos seem to be the standard equipment around here ;)

I dont know about you guys,
but it has been my experience that the "Cougars" are the ones doing the hunting! Had one attack me a couple of weeks ago. I survived.

Seriously though, if you are interested in hunting cougars in the south-central Okanagan, I now several of the members of the South Okanagan Houndsmen. They keep the cougars in check here around our place, which is great. PM me with your phone number if you like and I will pass it on to one of them who is a friend and will leave it up to him to contact you. You need a sled, ironman lungs, and a pair of snow shoes sometimes helps.

If your really look'n to hunt Cougar then Region 8 is not where to go! Espectialy in the core area (main valley). Our #'s are down and over harvest is the biggest problem for G.O.'s. Our club, Southern Interior Houndsmen Acc. is fighting this gross mis-managment from the Ministry and seems to be getting the perverbial "boot in the balls" for our efforts.
But anyone serious about it could probably get a hold of me and I'm sure we could find someone for you to tag along with. But be prepared, this is not just a drive down the road and walk up to your cat and wack him sort of deal. This requires you to be as crazy as the dogs your trying to keep up with and is seriously hard work. Oh yeah Snow mobile is required!

Go to Squamish and use yourself as the bait. There're lots of them that way. Don't forget to bring your 12 ga loaded with buck shots! :D
