I'm looking at buying a rangefinder before i go hunting next weekend, Could someone please let me know what rangefinders are reasonably priced and effective?

I found a used Bushnell Legend on Gunnutz for a very reasonable price - it has worked flawless thus far. I would recommend a waterproof model if you are hunting anywhere in/near the coast.

I bought a Leupold RXII, the first one was a POS, but the replacement one is fantastic. I got mine on E-bay for under $325 in my hand.

I have been running the Leica CRF since last December...do yourself a favour and buy a Leica from the get go...it'll save ya money in the long run!

If you want small and compact

the bushnell scout is a good option
if you get leupold remember the rxIII is water proof not the rxII

If you want long distance go with
leica
the top of the line bushnell (elite)
or top of the line luepold, swarovzki

Paul: I got a Bushnell Elite 1500. A little pricey, but is my second one. Had a model 650 before but had limited range. Suposed to go out to 650 yds(ideal conditions-when the hell do you get that) best I could get on a moose was 3-350 yds. Should have bought the better one first and saved myself some money. Show it to you when you come over this way for those reloads.

I grabbed a Nikon 800S last winter. It's got two sighting modes as well as a scanning feature. Being waterproof is another +. I bought it on the advice of another (I don't know $hit about them). He done me good - I is pleased.

IIRC it was in the mid 300 dollar area.
