That be a shit duck as my ‘ol man would have said...Right up there with mergansers. My old man come home with two of the latter when I was a kid, along with a couple of mallards. The odor that came off the mergansers as he cleaned them was enough to turn me off, not to mention my mom and two younger sisters. None of us would eat them except for him. He was a young person during the depression so it was quite palatable to him. You ate what you got or went hungry during that time as choices were limited. Eat the mergansers, sell the mallards. I don't think to this day that my sisters will touch duck or goose let alone eat either.

Hen Hooded Merganser. They do eat fish but also vegatation and generally fine for eating unlike the Common Mergansers which only eat fish.
