Daughter's first deer!

So here we are hunting in 3-12 the last day of the youth season. Last week she had a shot at one at 160 yards but lost it in the scope and then was not sure if she had the doe or the buck, so no shot, good girl.

Today we go back in the area and do my usual couple hours hike into a good spot I know, zilch.

Into the truck to get to another spot when along the way a nice fork mulie crosses the road 70 yards from us. Out of the truck she goes with her 6.5X55, the buck was agreable and stopped 60 yards away to munch on some tall grass...

Bang, she misses high, something about the scope shaking like crazy she tells me later. The buck is a nice one and he skips a few yards and resumes eating (why don't mine do that???). So, reload, steady and bang. I see the buck take the leap of death and I know it's a good hit.

We give it a little while, and get to where she hit it. Lot's of bright red blood. Another 20 yards, more blood, another 10 yards, lot's of blood. I get onto a stump and spot the buck laying against a downed tree, he's not going anywhere.

She got over the buck fever and made a beaut of a shot, took out both lungs. The bullet was a 140 grain Hornady SST and it went right thru, of course.

Congrats to you and especially to your daughter on a fine buck. It's my sons first year with a license as well and altho he can take a doe as a youth this year I am still hoping to put a buck in front of him before it comes to that. I can't wait until i can post his first on here.
