Hello Everyone,

Just thought I ask: I want to show my kiddo a real beaver dam (ideally inhabited)... does anyone know where to find one in a reasonable distance to the LM? I am in Coquitlam...

Thanks a bunch....

If you have access to a boat or canoe there is a beaver lodge here on the Pitt river: 49.281067, -122.699354.

If a lodge will cut it all good above if its an actual damn you're looking for as you posted you need a smaller body of water not a river. There's an active one here in Hope I know of if you can't find anything closer its on Union bar road less than a km up from the Coq river. Big swampy area there's over a foot of water held back behind his damn it would show the kiddo what its all about.

Hinge Park in Vancouver - near Science World. Walk along False Creek near the lodge and you'll see tons of trees chopped down. We took the Beaver Scouts there last year to see it.

Not sure if it is still there but in recent years there was always a beaver dam with active beaver in Jericho Park in Vancouver where they have the Folk Festival.

I am afraid of what might come up if I do that :-(

Vedder river. There is one behind "on the way" store and a better one further up the road behind "Thompson park".

Both are easy to find as there are obvious trails leading to them from the parking lot.

Thompson park is a better one and it's quite close to the road so a younger kid can walk to it easy.

Forgot to add .... you can see freshly cut trees there all the time, but I have yet to see a beaver during the day in all my years fishing those spots (15+). They are nocturnal so I wouldnt count on seeing one

Yes, there are beavers around there. Last year I saw one on the foreshore of all places and found a dead one on the flats at low tide.

Ok - I laughed.

Here's the City of Port Moody's "Beaver Information" page:
http://www.portmoody.ca/index.aspx?page=1735

And yes, because of all the hipsters living there Port Moody now has a "beaver management plan" since one of the kits died, so we can all co-exist peacefully in a beaver paradise.
