Came across 2 salt piles infront of a trail cam the other day. Is this illegal? I guess someone could make the excuse they just want to see what animals are in the area.

This has to be illegal right?

Nope. Only things you can't bait for are bears and migratory birds. Don't think either bears or geese are huge salt consumers...

Salt is heavy if you carry it deep into habitat.

Don’t worry you can also legally hunt there

No, no you can't. By the previous hunter staking his claim with the salt and the trail cam, all other hunters are required by law to avoid that spot. It actually is just the same as a mining claim. No claim jumpers alllowed!!! ;)

Still ok to give the fruit bowl pose for the trailcam though?

Damn Straight! That is a must!!! I personally like to crawl in on my hands and knees and lick the salt too. That way they know they are dealing with a crazy SOB and they abandon their claim out of fear. An abandoned claim is fair game. ;)

Did you check the pictures on the trail cam to see if there was anything worthwhile waiting in that spot?

These guys are giving you a hard time. Now I know quite a bit about salt just check out my handle. As long as the salt is kosher or coarse its perfectly legal as long as its not closer than 3.7 metres from the trail cam. Himalayan salt, flavoured salt and any other salt from yuppy cooking stores is forbidden if you use more than .5 kg. There is no limit to the amount of kosher or coarse salt. Also the pile can not be within 200 metres from a school or church. I hope this helps.

Don't mess with the camera or salt as you would be interfering with a lawful hunt

I personally refuse to touch someone's camera. It might have germs on it. What if he took a piss and didn't wash his hands before handling it? Yuck! Much easier to download the app that allows you to hack the photos right onto your phone from a safe distance without getting too close to those germs.

good advice about reading the regs

Come on now, it is just better to ask a question on a hunting forum! I get all my info from what I read on the internet. Best way to get an answer without having to flip through some printed paper pages. We should stop printing the regs. Paper kills trees and that is bad. Save the environment and stop reading the regs.

Ha, ha. totally agree. why waste your time looking something up when you can ask someone else to do it and then tell you about it....especially scouting. (that is, unless it's me!)
