Me and my partner headed to a brand new spot to us to target whitetails and both came home with 2 cut tags each.
Key was getting off the roads and pushing bush.
We spent a half a day GPSing points in the area around all these ridges and then i would drop my partner off at one spot and id go to the opposite side and we would hike in a few kms towards each other.
We bumped a total of 7 bucks over a half a week.
I got myself a 4x4 he pushed to me and he got a 2x3 we spotted at 400 yards and were able to stalk to 60 and shot with his head down feeding.
Great trip with full freezers.
Thats a wrap for me.
Sept 1st 4x2 muley with my bow and now a 4x4 whitey and a doe.

Good times.

Sometimes the game plan works.

Way to go! I like whitetail before the rut really starts to heat up. Let people out there and then all heck breaks loose with trucks and atv's around every corner. I would ask where you shot it in MU-8 but would expect you to tell me, "right behind the shoulder". lol.

Hey, how old do you estimate that buck to be - 3-1/2 years?

Dropped him off with Ray Wiens for a shoulder mount.
Ray did my first Muley and it turned out outstanding.

Cant wait to see how he finishes this buck.

Nice work..sounds like you guys figured it out. My guess would be that is his second set of antlers, so 2 1/2.

How can you tell/guess it's his second set?

After seeing the second picture, I've also changed my mind to 2-1/2 years as the face is so young looking. The first picture looked more mature to me with a more pronounced forehead but the long thin neck also had me second guessing myself. He looks tasty to me whatever his age is.
In my opinion there is too much antler there for a first year from our area here and it would probably be considered a scrub buck to be culled from the heard from the super deer feedlots down south. Buy, I could be very wrong in my opinion and he could be a young product of good genetics for our area. Again, he'll be tasty.
