i dont eat huge amount venison during of year.,,,my wife no even that much...but i love to get best of the best meat,,like deer fawn...but sometimes it is not easy to legally know ..buck or doe ...don't wanna make mistake..yearling has spike..usually..but how about spring bamby? no studs yet? do i need draw..to shoot young one?
usually if mama deer has 2 fawns another die during the winter anyways..so no loss for the deer population..

Pretty sure depending where you are when doe season is open for white tail you can harvest fawns

Not much meat on a fawn , quality meat comes from how you take care of and process your harvest. Sometimes though not often you do get a rank deer.

Antlered or antlerless... look in the regs or at leh draws and find the openings for the animals you waist to harvest. I have an antlerless draw this year so if I choose I could take a fawn, however I do like to eat a ton of red meat and will be looking for a big 4 point buck and if no buck hopefully find a dry doe.

I like a younger mulie buck, 2pt or a smaller 4pt, harvested before the rut, usually early oct. It may not be the "best" for some tables but it is for mine and I find it is consistently good never having shot a poor tasting one.

no doe or buck season now like years ago, now it's antlered or antlerless not buck or doe
Antler has to break thru the skin and hair and appear on a fawn or yearling -- if no bone showing yet, it's deemed antlerless weather it has testicles or not.
Jelly ( Antlered _ in Kammy - double - Wammy -) inch long or so broken thru and yer goody to go Joe!

To the OP, follow the regs for the legal definition of antlered/antler less. If you chose to shoot a young animal because you only want a small amount of meat, have at it. To each his own.

I shot an elk calf one year. Best meat I have ever eaten

"Spring bamby"?

Did I miss something. Does BC have a spring deer season now?

I love white tail, but a early season caribou a few years ago, had me convinced it was my new favourite, until, I tried stone sheep this year. This sheep is like candy, no comparison to anything Iv tasted flavour wise.

What defines "The Best" meat?

Is it just tenderness?

If you have teeth, this seems like a simplistic interpretation....
