Now that we have to take more white tail.. I'm specifically looking for a nice tender young one ! A reward for all the work it'll take to get a nice mulie and white tail.

Yawn...get some new material.

Anyway, I like the idea of a thread for smaller critters.

Lol well IMO, the young whitetail bucks shot in September specifically are the best tasting deer, hands down....and if you have yet to shoot one in that timeframe, I dare you to, and tell me I'm wrong:wink:

I agree. Wouldn’t pass a young WT or a nice doe myself. Unless it was my last tag.
How much meat did this young gaffer yeild you? 50-60 pounds isn’t bad especially when your just adding it to the pile

Exactly...will be butchering it today or tomorrow with a buddy, I'm guessing 50 lbs....it's nice to get something in the freezer, while elk hunting, then continue focusing on hunting elk..

Well it sounds like you've had success with blacktails, so I'll bet when you do hunt whitetails you'll find success... you will enjoy the meat..

Lucky enough to get a young bull moose in the freezer very early and quickly into my first day of moose hunting in the season. From the time I left the house in the morning to head into the bush and the time it was in the meat cooler was less than 8 hours total.

We were out today, saw 4 bears, 3 Grouse, and a bull elk.

2 of the bears were a little too small for this early in the season. The other 2 were good, but quick.

There is a couple of good size bear here in JR still, go get em.

Thanks for the tip. Is it mostly hike-in hunting, or is there a FSR to get in off the highway a ways? It’s been a couple years since I’ve been to Jordan River as I think you’ve had me banned from hunting there.

I might of had a chance at one of the bigger ones if I wasn’t in such a hurry. I took what I thought was a shortcut and got pretty turned around. While losing daylight I was quickly driving around trying to figure out where the hell we were. GPS was of course sitting in my garage at home.

^^^^ya I find I can get turned around pretty quick when rippin around in a vehicle, whereas walking it ain't near as bad..

Another buck for the freezer, sorry didn't get any pics in the field....had all the meat deboned/quarters in one meat sack, between my Eberlestock F1 Mainframe and the F65 Little Big Top bags...the pic is deceiving, theres a lot more meat there than it looks..the packout was about 1 km, and I must say, the Eberlestock setup was awesome, everything was tight and balanced and made the trek down the steep uneven terrain not all that bad..my last deer tag I'm going to hold out for a good sized whitetail buck, now that I can't shoot another muley, or a whitetail with my bow..

Looks like this Mulie is decked out in hunter camo ready to ambush you as you enter you workshop. Best be ready for him - he looks well armed.

I put 50 lbs of completely deboned meat in my freezer from an itty bitty buck....I was solo, and had a better shot on the little guy, so his much bigger brother behind him lived...I don't use third party hosting but I will email a pic to anyone if they want to post it
