View Full Version : Loaded Crossbow Question

Me and a few of my hunting partners are considering getting Crossbows for next Season
(yup, maybe it's time to hunt the opening with more success then later in the rifle season?)

Question is, if you have your crossbow loaded, and what I mean by loaded, is just having the bow
string cocked back to the "firing position" BUT, you DO NOT have the arrow loaded, just the bow string,
IS IT: considered a "loaded firearm/weapon" WHEN:
You drive with it in your vehicle?????(again, no arrow loaded, just the string pulled back into firing position)

Hoping a few of the Bow Folks know if it is legal or illegal.

Thanks BMI

Not legal to have the bow cocked IIRC

Look at the regs page 15 Para 25. No cocked crossbow in or on a vehicle

Thanks guys.
It was a question that came up by one of my hunting partners.
I told him I would just inquire on here for him.
I was of the opinion that it was "illegal" as well.
Appreciate the replies...thanks

If i remember correctly at one time it was legal amd the regulation was changed. I don't have any old regs to look back on. But i do know one individual that was charged for that infraction.

$240 fine. Had a friend learn this the hard way. Bring a small target with you in the truck so you can discharge your crossbows in the case that there isn't a soft release mechanism.

Quad is a "vehicle" by definition.
No Chancy.
