Thought I would share this link for anyone interested. We found it useful this year for purifying our general camp water (washing dishes, brushing teeth, cleaning up etc). We filtered our drinking water but I would drink it if I needed too. Good for emergency situations, may be overkill for camp but......

I've used a few drops of bleach to sanitize water for a very long time.

I could use a little giardia to lose some weight these days though...

First thing I buy overseas, bleach. I have to wash everything, this and ciprofloxacin helps get me through my year lol

We did the same this summer on a 1 1/2 week camp with our trailer. Ran an electric pump off the side of the boat into 5gal jugs in a lake and used 1/8tsp per gal then pumped into trailer.

I would use it in a pinch but not as a plan. Iodine kills more than bleach.

Long time technique bleaching the water.

When doing camp dishes for multiple people, I run a 3 bin system, 1 = Hot Soapy water, 2 = Clean water to rinse, 3 = 1 tablespoon per gallon of water to do a sanitize rinse soaked for 2 minutes then let air dry, keeps thing like the norovirus etc at bay.
