Heading out to try and fill our 2 moose tags on the 24th of this month. We will be staying in the Lac La Hache area and most likely hunting off Wright Satation Road. Have been looking at some areas off to the right of the road if heading away from Lac la hache. Anyone have much experience with this area? Point me in the right direction? Tips? anything appreciated. Hunted timothy mountain area last year for my sons moose tag.

I think you want to get a bit further back from Wright station, back towards Snag Lake area.

Wolves are a plenty around that area. Wolf tracks on every trail it seems, crazy, wish you luck though.

We will check out the Snag Lake area and do some calling. Seems to be cooling down nicely so the last part of September should be decent.

I also saw about 100 grouse in 2 km. never seen grouse populations so high, few rabbits tho.

I saw a calf moose touching noses with a doe at dempsey lake yesterday

seen lots of sign in the area between gustafson and 70 mile. no visuals on any , but I was looking for a whitetail

You related to kelly croswell?

Hmmmmm, quite possibly related but not sure. Most of us Croswells came from a family in the Saskatchewan area. Also have heard the Gustafson to be good. Wish i could just quit work and spend all my time in the bush!!!

Tried Gustafson yesterday. Not much for sign compared to other years and it's getting really thick. I have the same draw and will be going further north next weekend. Good luck.

Hey I've got 2 tags for Moose in the 5-02A area as well. Never been to that area before but I drew that place because a local friend recommended. He's outta town for this month due to an emergency so that sucks. Any pointers would be appreciated since I am on my own now. I've heard the areas around snag lake and Gustafson were once good....like 6 years ago so I dunno about that now. Tags are good till the end of September. Cheers!

Hey Srupp, can you give me some pointers as well for the 5-02A area? I've got 2 moose tags to fill and I thinking of heading down there this Weds. A local friend recommended me to draw that area this year cause he knows the place but an emergency had him outta town for this month. Never hunted the area so any tips/directions and maybe even intel would be appreciated. Thanks!

Part of this is getting away from the wife, not to mention the beer burning a hole in my trailer.

I called one in on the second last day of my hunt (Sept 29). He replied with two bull grunts. At most 70 to 80 yards away behind some trees at the bottom of a small hill so there were no visuals. I think I rushed it because when I immediately replied with three loud cow wails, there were frantic rustling noises so I must have scared it off. Kept calling after that but heard nothing so it must have ran back into the bush. Got up late on the last day of the hunt because my alarm on my trash iPhone 6 Plus didn't go off. Went to check up on the place before leaving for Vancouver and found fresh tracks and a knocked downed bush with some hairs on it. I am so choked right now. I had that bull on the ropes but couldn't finish the deal. I guess that goes to show how much I still have to learn when it comes to calling in moose. Whelp, I guess it's gonna be another long 6 (or more) years before I can get a draw again. :( So sad and such a waste of a tag.
