Anybody around here using a .357 chambered Carbine for deer? I’ve already got a .7-08, and a .44 magnum that are my current deer rifles, but I have a serious desire to own a Henry in .357, and would probably end up using it more than either of the other two. There are lots of folks using .357 out of handguns for deer south of the border, but curious if any of you guys use it up here where “things” are a bit bigger. Some of the 140-158 grain .357 loads are hitting 1800-2000 fps, so I’m figuring that with good shot placement, I’d be fine in a sub 100 yard scenario. (I realize that even a .22 LR will work “with good shot placement”). I’m just looking for local experience if anyone has some?

I run a 357 but have never taken deer with it. I feel it would be just fine though. I carry mine for bear. Use a stout bullet, I load hard cast. I think a hard cast bullet will shoot right through a deer. My marlin is a handy little rig that is a joy to carry. Go for it!
