where is all the early moose success storys?

well this story is short and a few years back...

dad and i go out harvest a nice almost 50inch bull moose...
we pack up camp to head home after a long trip and we can see the rain coming so we pack quickly before the rain.
as we jump in the truck to pull out of camp the co pulls in to conduct a hunter cj
check....he sees are leh/firearms/cancelled tags/stored rifles no issues...he can see the big bull rack and 4 quarters and says i need to see the evidence of sex on that moose. i say okay and in my haste to load up the rear quarters where on the bottom...i say well we will have to unload a lot of gear into the now mud...co says i need to see tge balls. i say okay....

we unload are gear to a point the co can climb in there to see the balls....well he puts his hands on them and is fondalling them around while my gear gets soaked and muddy..

i natuarally ask him if he liked what he touched....

he said yes...

i started to laugh so did his boss....

Same thing happened to us many yrs back comeing home after a 2 week hunt from Prophet river. We just about got back to hope we were on the steep hill heading up to "lake of the woods' and CO stopped us,2 bulls and 3 bears in the back of the truck quarters everywhere and it was late afternoon and the sun was just glareing on us.CO called for backup and a female CO pulled up ten minites later she was obviously a rookie and you can guess who the supervisor sent into the pile to find the gonads...yup we all snickered as she physically handled each sack, always been a good campfire story ever since...lol

By the way friends tagged a bull up in Hudson Hope last week thats the only early success ive heard of

Haha the same thing happened to us coming back from fort nelson 3 years ago 2 moose and an elk . Learned the hard way I guess to make the meat a bit more accessible but when your going for a 16 hour drive you want it all secure for the long haul. Damn ball gropers

Take a pic of each animal as you load it up. Then you can at least give them the option. If they still want to go into the canopy, and they call for backup... run!

Not a hunting story, but we used to do a "man camp" every year. Eat meat and drink beer, ride dirtbikes, go wheeling, etc. Sleep in the truck or on the ground where you fall.
So out dumbass buddy is married to a manipulative bitch who decided to come along. It was during the fire ban. Since he had his wife there, he also brought his huge tent. It was the only tent. We were out in cowichan at the end of a dead end spur.
So we pull up and in the fire ring, theres a pile of hardcore porn magazines. We kicked them aside, and of course, we can't have a fire, so we put a lantern in the fire ring, and started to party. 7 dudes, one chick. And only one tent.
When the forestry chick pulled up to make sure we weren't having a fire, she definitely got the wrong idea.

Nah she got alllll awkward and after saying it was good we weren't having a fire (and the guy with the most offensive tattoos offering her a beer), she walked backwards to her truck and left.

what is the reasoning behind the rack not being adequate evidence of sex?

As far as i remember the regs don't specify to how big of a piece of carcass the testicles must be left attached. Therefore, i can just detach the testicle as well as the tail..... So then, what is the difference whether a detached head is used for sex ID or the detached testicles?

There's no way to prove that either one is part of the same animal as the rest of the meat.

Someone enlighten me please

They need to be attached to the carcass or part of the carcass like a quarter for example. I wouldn't try pulling out a plastic bag with nuts in it and saying here you go. We take all our animals apart in the bush and leave the nuts on 1 quarter and a ring of hide on the foreleg bone of each quarter. Also take time and date pictures. The way the regs are written can lead to confusion but they written so that CO's have a chance for convictions in court. They must have lost some cases over whether the antlers belonged to the pieces.

Regs say that evidence of sex must be left " naturally attached " to a piece or portion of the carcass.

It does not specify how big that piece must be! So really, I can just chop the nuts off as long as they are attached to a 1/4 pound piece of meat and say that's a "piece" and "portion" of a carcass.

read page 20 in the regs. Deer must be accompanied with antlers, unskinned tail and either a testicle/penis or udder/teat. Caribou, moose elk, antlers, tail or portion of hide no less than 6cm square and testicle/penis, udder/teat. Bottom line you better be able to prove exactly what’s in the back of your pick up with out a doubt.

What you just said doesnt address the issue I brought up whatsoever.

Yes, those pieces must be brought out. Yes, testicles must be attached ..... but there is NO mention to what size piece of the carcass it must be attached to! That's the hole in the reg.

It doesnt say leave the testicle attached to one quarter or a piece of meat of specific size etc.

A carcass by definition is the whole trunk of an animal. The regs state proof of sex must be left naturally attached to the carcass or one part of the carcass (part of the whole trunk) not piece of the carcass. Unattached antlers or balls may have no relation to the quarters in your possession. It could be written more clearly and a definition of "carcass" or "part of the carcass" should be in the definitions part of the regs.

X2 ... the definition of "piece of carcass" needs to be defined!

But it's still BS .... I mean if you dont believe the detached head belongs to the animal you have in your possession then why do you believe the proof of sex on one quarter identifies the other 3 quarters as the same animal?
