The following pics are of bullets recovered from a 5 point elk that a friend got a couple days ago. The Elk was shot with a 338 Mag from about 120 yards, using FEDERAL factory ammo. The ELK was hit solidly 4 times, all shots should have dropped the animal. The less damaged bullet passed almost through the Elk lengthwise, and broke the pelvise, stopping just under the hide of the hind quarter. Both sholders were busted up, as well as several ribs. The animal died more from ACCUTE VENTILATION than good bullet performance.

what was the bullet type? I know it was loaded by federal but what was the bullet make? Was it a bear claw? Partition? High shock?

I use Federal Premium Vital Shok and Federal Premium Power Shok 165gr and find they perform excellently. Quick Kills with minimal loss of meat.

Get a hold of the manufacturer, tell them the tale with some pictures. You never know what may come of it. But those bullets SUCKED!!

What kind of bullet are we looking at? Kind of looks like a Trophy Bonded Bearclaw? But I don't think they have canalures!! I've heard rumors that they don't open well.

Just checked the Federal Website and Bearclaws do have cannalures and from their bullet lineup it looks like its the Trophy bonded bearclaw 225gr 2730fps.

i shoot federal premium vital shock accubonds out of my .270 and i love them never had a problem and have even found a couple in the hides of bears and they performed awsome.

I also shoot federal premium trophy bonded bear claws out of my
.300 RUM and have killed 1 bear with them but they seemed to work fine...quick kill with little meat loss i would recommend either of them to anyone!!!

Might just as well have been using solids with performance like that......:?

Look on the bright side, straighten them out with a pair of pliers and you can reload them

Seriously though that sucks. A good letter and pictures, include a photo of the box showing the batch # etc and you will be set.

So what bullet was it? I used Fed TBBC in338Win Mag on a grizzly, 120yds, one shot, bang flop, fully penetration, bear took two steps. Very curious indeed,

I guess that I shouldn't slam there entire lineup, but seeing something like that will definatly make you think hard about there quality control. Maybe they turned out a bad batch of bullets, but that makes ya think "How big is a BATCH"

These rounds were the "Trophy Bonded Bear Claws),

The wound channels through the animal looked like what I assume an arrow with a field point would make.

Gatehouse, what forum did you post the pics to, I would like to see the comments.
