I recently got an older over under shotgun with fixed chokes (full over IM). I will be using the gun for trap and upland bird hunting. I am thinking of opening up one or both barrels a bit; something like Full over IC or IM over IC.

I would like to know about your thoughts in general (good or bad idea and why).

If you think the process of opening up the chokes is the way to go, what is the expected cost? And, do you know of a good gunsmith around metro-Vancouver for the task?

Thanks in advance.

It is a good idea makes it usable or forgiving,IC IM or skeet and IC would be a good choice depending on what you are going do.The only thing I have come across is you can't open up chrome lined barrels but they are not that common and the gunsmith will let you know.

I had my older Remington 1100 opened up to accommodate steel shot.
The gunsmith did an exellent job and it cost me just under $100, although the quotes
from gunsmiths near Metro Vancouver were in the $150 range. Unfortunately I can't
remember his name (he had his business out of his property in Langley) He used to
work for a sportshop in Chilliwack and might still do contract work for them.

Thank you both, gentlemen.
