Hey all,
ive been up to our cabin at Green Lake a few more times than usual for this time of year. Talking to my neighbors and other friends all up and down the lake we’ve all noticed the same weird thing. ...no squirrels.

ive seen plenty of years with no rabbits or no grouse ...but never a lack of squirrels. I’m sure the population collapses like all others do, but it’s spooky quiet without them around.

any insights?

btw- the mosquitos have NOTcollapsed- they’re just fine

They’re all at my house. Effin rats.

I was visiting family at Sheridan last week and there was quite a few around. But come to think of it didn't see any at my property a few Kms west. Think they just be in pockets. Most likely where the food is. Your neighbors have probably cleaned up or stopped feeding the birds.

On a plus side, it would appear that grouse numbers are doing excellent this year.

The loss of the pine trees has quieted the bush down hasn't it ?

Pine marten was my first thought. But I didn’t see any. As much as I hate it when a squirrel alerts and chirps away when I’m trying to do my best Elmer Fudd for deer and moose it’s just weird when they’re not around. Our neighbor feeds them and the peanuts haven’t been touched in 2 weeks.....

thx for the insight on Sheridan... if you’ve got them there well have them back soon enough

I'm enjoying the lack of squirrels at our camp site near jaffray. Our neighbour usually feeds the little *******s but this year we aren't seeing very many.

maybe cuz so many trees burned right down they couldn't locate their food stashes very well?
