I am looking for advice on where you would take your son/daughter for their first hunt with their own hunting license in Region 8.

My daughter has just turned 13 and did her CORE & Firearms Safety Course last year. We are going to head out this weekend for the youth season for Deer (Muley or Whitetail) and I am looking for advice on where you think I should take her.

Thanks

Trouble with Whipsaw (specially on the long weekend) is the big tire small I.Q. crowd that goes on "runs" up there.

Thanks for the info so far guys. She is really excited to just get out, her younger sister can't wait to go hunting as well, I my youngest daughter I'd take her along with me later in the year now she won't stop going on about it.

The kids love nothing more than go to the range, we have had a couple of family range days were we take a few guns and the girls get to shoot them, they really enjoy it.

Reg 3 is open too!!, just a little north west of the booth all the way to Merritt. Look for a red Canyon, might just see you there?

If your younger daughter does not have her CORE yet consider entering her in the LEH draw next year for 1st time hunters only. The odds are really good for this special draw for first time hunters only shooting does in several mu's in region 8. My son got a doe there 2 years ago in 8-23

Well we just got back, had a great time of bonding and some laughs, but no deer. We'll be back out again later in the year to see if she can get her first.

We just got back also, pounded a lot of area and saw only 10 does. Missed a yote by mere inches and a bobcat at full speed with a faster bunny in front.

Kids a little bummed but understands that's hunting!!

while out doing some scouting in 8-4 yesterday, we had the pleasure of seeing 3 different youths out with their fathers/uncles. All were very excited to be out hunting in the youth season. One young man from Campbell River connected on a nice 4 pt still in velvet.
We had a conversation with each adult and all felt the junior season was a great opportunity for their kids.

Funny thing is that we didn't see any archery people while out there...they must have been hiding well from these gun toting juniors:lol::lol:
