Got this bruin last last night in a little spot behind the mine in Coalmont. Saw him last Sept but couldn't get close enough. I crawled 200m and was hoping the wind wouldn't bust me. 25.06 with a 100grn E-tip split his spine in 2 yet he still made it 50 yds down a ravine. Good thing for ropes and winches. This time I was solo LOL

Just a few inches over 6' and guessed at 350lb.

I'm betting (hoping) the noggin will go book but it's still in need of cleaning and drying!

Nicely done David. I Heard he wouldn't fit in the truck I tried so hard to get him in whole but ended up cutting him in two and still had trouble. When back to the trailer I showed Mrs Steeleco. She thought I'd shot two bears LOL

He was a brute. Came back to camp and my dog went nuts and lead me to the hanging bear. And what a bear

That's the worst part of bear hunting for me, my friggin dog is on edge for days constantly looking out the windows and barking like a crazy hound.
Seems like it takes forever for the scent to dissipate.

Awesome bear! Solo hunting to booth, about which I'm debating for the next season.

Is hunting bear alone your usual way, or even prefered way of doing it?

As my kids grow older I'm hunting solo more, but often have a buddy within radio reach for the grunt work. They were on a different hill that night. The job still gets done, just make the meat taste sweeter LOL

Yesterday afternoon there's a knock at the cabin door and a little friend says "ICG, Dad needs some help" so walk over to the cabin across from us and there's a bruin ready to haul up on the "rack".
His Dad, a Member on HBC got it in the Tulameen area ( that's as close as I'll say ).
Smaller than Steelco's but in really great shape. Helped him with the processing ( basically I got beer and held bags open ) while he did an expert job skinning it.
His young Son will be having a beautiful bear skin rug in his bedroom.
Our Son popped up for dinner and he has been cruising the same area over the past week or two for other purposes and said he's seen lots of bears there.

Nice bear!!

My boys are all grown up now too, so going solo is becoming the norm for me again. Part of that is good, but it definitely creates some challenges! :)

Congrats!

Nice Bear Dave.
feels good to bust your ass by yourself, makes it more fulfilling and rewarding. Brings ya back to days of old. With the after hurts that come with it.
After curing and smoking them hams, plus all the various types of sausage ..... You have some fine eats there.
Be sure to invite Jazzy and Raincoasts friends over for some eats.

It's not a matter that it wouldn't fit. Old Dave couldn't heave it up. I don't blame him. It was a brute. When we came back and saw it hanging we thought that he'd shot a puny bear. Upon closer look we saw the other half was on top of the freezer! Well done sir. Payback for helping out the guys with the flat tire and no food.
