New Spot satellite

These look to have come a long way from when they had 3 buttons.

I've been holding out for an InReach but these are looking pretty sweet. And, the subscription cost is about 1/3 of Garmin.

I would wait to see what the real world reviews are like... I took a hammer to my SPOT out of frustration, it kept sending SOS messages to the Rescue Coordination center every time I turned it on! POS

They had to do something to compete. The subscription will go up after a year, I bet.

I like InReach because it has maps. Carrying only one piece of equipment is nice.

But, the price difference in subscriptions adds up fast.

Interesting thought about the price increasing.

I need to get something now that the kids are skiing more - and we bought a place near Kamloops. There are a lot of areas I'll be exploring both alone and with the kids where there's no cell service. 99% of the time (even with a breakdown, etc) being out later than anticipated is a-ok, but it would sure be nice to send a quick text to keep the wife from sending out a search party.
