They have been killing wolves... I guess not enough?

Has anyone seen a caribou wolf kills? Lots? Which area?

They have been killing wolves. With low numbers of caribou you don't need lots of wolf kills to make a difference. An incidental kill does the trick in terms of making a big impact. A herd of 12 losing one animal equates to an 8% reduction in population. If it's a cow, and the cows were half the herd, 1 kill is 16% of the population.

In case you haven't heard this podcast, it's a great one. Bart George, a caribou bio in Washington, talks about the Southern Selkirk herd, which wanders into Washington/Idaho, and which he's working on preserving. Interesting perspective. Wolves and cougars, along with Highway 3, are problematic. He talks about wolf kills and other predators in a pretty interesting way. Also comments on the BC wolf cull.
