Was out in the south Okanagan last weekend, not much grass grow showing as of yet. I was at around 1000m elevation. Still too much snow on the road to get where
I prefer to look for bears. It was starting, but my side yard has a bumper crop of dandylions , would make the bears drool. The creeks are high and still rising. Saw
one sign of scat. No ticks on me when I got home. Near Beaverdell.

Shot a small bear on some south facing grass just north of PG today. Still not green along the FSRs though.

Saw my first bear of the year last night walking past my driveway. He gave the old gal next door a good scare with a WOOF when she was wandering around to see where he went, and got a bit too close lol.

Hmmm looks like flyfishing is happening next week...bear hunting in first time in 10 years will happen after...
Lol FD..most all bears will still be groggy, hungry..and cranky. ..makes for bad scenario for close encounters with any bear.

Didn't get my bear till June last year.

Bear tasted great but hide was rubbed.

whats the sweet spot for good meat and a nice hide?
Are the early bears still good to eat? And when do they start loosing nice coat?

Cant wait to get out! Taking the bow this year.
thanks!

Yes they are perfectly good to eat. Have one going through the grinder in a few minutes I got yesterday. The grass is growing so fast now you can practically see it growing down in regions 2 and 3.

I was cruising with my kids last weekend in 5-01. Only saw one small bear and lots of snow. Might skip this weekend to do some spring cleaning instead. Usually mid to end of may is good for me around hwy 24.
